Description of Fenix L2D 6 Level High Performance Cree LED Flashlight (Black)

The Fenix L1D CE is digitally regulated and digitally controlled. It has two output modes which produce a total of six levels of output. These modes not only allow the user to select the best compromise between brightness and runtime for any given task, but they also help to aid in an emergency. The L1D CE does all this and still retains a very compact size. If you're looking for solid reliability, digitally-regulated brightness, and compact size, this Fenix is for you.

Customer Review: L2D Q5 - Exatcly What to Expect
Sport shop rating: 4 Stars

OK, I'm an engineer without stars in my eyes. Here is what to expect from the L2D Q5. The build-quality is 90 out 100. The chinese are getting much better, but it isn't German quality. It's on-par with a US-built product.
Fit and finish are excellent.

The Switch is fine. Depression pressure to actuate it is just right. Cycling through the modes works perfectly.

The Cree LED puts out a very nice color temperature. I was surprised at how nice. the light is white with a very slight green tinge - a good tinge. It is superior to ANY LED flashlight I own. Light output at 12 lumens is the same illumination as a Brinkman 2xAA. At the next step up, it is a serious light..similar to a 5 cell brinkman incandescent. At 105 lumens it is dam bright. This is the level at which you can light up an area at night. The transision from it's hot spot in the center to the flooded area is nice...about exactly what you would want most.
At Turbo 180 lumens it perks up about 50% and for short periods, you can amaze yourself. Let's get real. It doesn't look like a million candle power flood. That said, your eyes won't need 30 minutes to re-adjust to the dark once you turn it off. The strobe mode is fast and powerful.
The SOS mode is too slow for me (being a code man)...but anyone would recognize it as SOS.

That's it. Would I buy it again? Sure. It it a massive light blaster that will set paper on fire? No. It's pretty dam cool over-all.

Customer Review: Flawed, but I still like it and use it.
Sport shop rating: 4 Stars

This is a lot of light in a small package. I like the selection of power levels, which saves battery life. It would have five stars if the following flaws were not present:

1. No protective circuitry to prevent damage to LED in Turbo mode.

2. Rolls on flat surfaces.

3. No warranty. Hey guys, if Streamlight can do a lifetime warranty on cheaper

4. Overpriced for its long-term prospects.

5. No service or parts availability. The lack of service, parts or warranty make it a throw-away.

6. My switch is unreliable. Sometimes it takes two tries to go on or off.

7. No clip. I would like to clip it onto a pocket edge or boot top for ready access.

8. No momentary function on the power switch. This can be handy for signaling someone else, or just a quick flash for yourself.

Having said all that, I still like it and use it, but I would shop around for something else if I lost it. If a really good friend admires it, I would probably give it to him.

Customer Review: In the competition
Sport shop rating: 4 Stars

I did quite a bit of research before settling on this item which I gave to my son-in-law to use while serving in Iraq with the Army. I had previously given a SureFire to my Marine son who used his in Iraq. Thought we'd see how they compare in a real-time environment. The Fenix has been a hit and has become a show-off piece amongst the troops. They really like the automatic SOS feature. That it uses AA batteries is a bonus because they are readily available (unlike the SureFire) though, if at all possible, you want to keep it loaded with lithiums rather than the standard AAs. Its durability has been very good thus far (the SureFire fared a little worse but, then again, it--along with my son--survived an IED explosion). It's a lot of light with a lot of options in a small package with a fair price. Not five-star because of Fenix's poor user instructions--you shouldn't have to search the Internet to find out from others how to use its features. Also, the packaging was crushed because of the poor mailing container of the seller.

Customer Review: Shouldn't use at "Turbo" power for more than 10 minutes!
Sport shop rating: 4 Stars

First off, this is a fine flashlight and is extremely bright, especially considering that it is powered by only 2 AA batteries (I use NiMH rechargables).

The problem: nowhere on the Amazon ad, or on the Fenix website, or on the side of the flashlight box is mentioned the 10 minute limitation of using the flashlight at "Turbo" power due to heat build-up, however it is stated in the flashlight instructions once you have opened the box. I call this deceptive advertising on Fenix's part. What if you bought a 1200 watt microwave oven that only mentioned inside the box that it could not be use at maximum power for more than 10 minutes...straight back to the store it would go.

My final position: this is a good flashlight and I intend to use it a its advertised "Turbo" setting (180 lumens) without a 10 minute limitation. I will return it for warrantee replacement/repair if it fails due to being used as advertised.

Customer Review: Great flashlight all the way around
Sport shop rating: 4 Stars

While the AA batteries may not last very long at the brightest setting with this flashlight (regular AAs don't last as long as lithiums), you have the option of running this flashlight at lower brightness settings which is a plus. That will extend the run time quite a bit. Also, the fact that it takes AA batteries means you will likely always be able to find batteries wherever you are. In an emergency, you can even take batteries out of your TV remote, etc.

While the build quality of this light would probably be better if it was made in the USA, I have no complaints; it seems quite sturdy and it should last a very long time. It also comes with a holster which is nice.

My only complaint is that it is expensive given that it's made in China. If it was $10 or $20 cheaper, I'd be giving it the full 5 stars. That said, it compares favorably to other flashlights in the same price range.
