Sports reviews of Fenix 6 Level High Performance Cree LED Flashlight, Black, 4-InchCustomer Review: Handy Big-Little flashlight Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I've been using my Fenix LD10 for almost a year now and still think it's one of my better purchases.
Pro's:
- Runs off one AA battery. I use Eneloop Pre-Charged NiMH Sanyo Eneloop Ni-MH Charger and 8 Rechargeable AA and 4 Rechargeable AAA Batteries
- Multiple power settings lets the user select from incredibly bright to really long battery life with two other settings in the middle.
- Water proof/resistant. If you fall overboard the flashlight will still work {not for diving}.
- Glass lens, as opposed to plastic. Doesn't scratch in my pocket with keys and other stuff.
- Metal housing provides extreme durability.
- Small/handy size, form factor.
- Different (wide range) intensities let me select between being able to read a label (low power), or light up something on the other side of the parking lot (high power).
Cons:
- Price {Still a good value} (My previous favorite flashlight Coast LED Lenser LL7848 David 19 DigiTac II Silver Luxeon LED flashlight uses just 1 AA battery)
Current measurements for different power levels while running off an Eneloop Ni-MH battery (~1.34V):
Low - 75mA (0.075A)
Next - 380mA (0.38A)
Next - 1000mA (1A)
High - 2100mA (2.1A)
High Power Strobe - ~ 1100mA (1.1A) [Average reading]
Doing the math for a 2000mAH rechargable battery, battery life should be about;
Low - 26 hours
Next - 5+ hours
Next - 2 hours
High - 57 minutes
High Power Strobe - 2- hours
Other reviews weren't kidding when they said this flashlight puts out a lot of light. One of my friends disassembled and compared his two-battery Fenix with his one-battery Fenix. He claims they have the same inverter circuit for both products (smart design can run off multiple voltage inputs). Extrapolating from this means, as another reviewer suggested, that this flashlight should be able to run longer off a higher voltage/higher capacity rechargeable Lithium Ion battery (for maybe 3x longer run times) [Do your own homework before trying this as I won't be responsible for a failed unit]. I'm sticking with my Pre-Charged Ni-MH rechargeables since I can continue to use the same charger/batteries as I use in my other battery powered equipment.
And yes, I just had to leave this flashlight immersed in a glass of water overnight to verify it would still work, and it does.
I use it frequently (not continuously) through the day and the rechargeable battery still lasts for months.
I carry this flashlight in my pants pocket at all times for work and play as it suits all my (and my kids) flashlight needs through the day. After a year of being carried this way it still looks almost new and works as well as the day I received it from Amazon.
