Customer Review: EDC Fenix PD20 R2 vs. Fenix LD01 R2

Fenix lights are the absolute brightest with the best build quality that I have been able to find at the right price. For the size/weight, the PD20 r2 is about as bright as my TK10 and brighter than the P3D(which is super bright and has a focused beam). The amazing thing is that it is super small and has 6 modes including SOS. By super small it is as thick as your thumb and as long as your forefinger. Now how does it compare with the LD01 R2?
Here are the Pros of each:
LD01 R2:
- Super small and thinner (thickness of forefinger and length of forefinger). I even forget it is my pocket.
- Common battery found anywhere AAA.
- Clip is great, holds firm in pocket. I use it as a EDC pocket light since it is so light (weights a little more than the AAA).
- Turbo is incredible. Very bright, but not as concentrated as PD20 R2.
- Runs cool.
- Lower price than PD20 R2, but a big VALUE and size is undeniable.
- My pick for EDC, but if absolute performance is your Gig, go with PD20 R2. The throw or concentration of light (plust the runtime)on this light is not as good as PD20 R2.
Con: I may lose this thing..its so small.
PD20 R2: Pros:
- Long Throw and focused beam. I have to do a double take, can this really be coming from a light this small?...yes.
Very light but not as light or as slim as LD01 R2 for EDC. However, it is brighter and more concentrated. Turbo mode is unreal...wow that much light from something this small is a mind blower. My only wish would be that Turbo mode last for hours, but alas, the regular mode is super good and lasts a longer time (light power vs. time tradeoff is just a part of life).
- 6 modes including SOS, and low power 35 hour mode. Battery last longer than LD01.
- The R2 version is smaller than the PD20, making it the ultimate pound per pound (or oz/oz) winner in lighter lumens vs. capability. Hands down incredible light.
- Push button activation on rear of light. Canvas carry pouch included, and lanyard.
- Great clip.
- With this kind of performance, makes you wonder why people are buying more expensive/bigger lights. This would even be good for serious hiking.
Not all Crees are created alike. Microprocessor + Cree + Fenix= PD20 R2=awesome.
- On Turbo, it would blind someone for a couple seconds.
- Like all Fenix's that I have tried...runs cool.
- Can attach to head band made for P3D so I can go hands free.
Con: I may lose this thing..its so small.I'll cry when that day happens. Its fairly lightweight and short, so you won't be able to use this as a defensive weapon other than to blind someone (but why would you buy this light as a weapon..get a gigantic cop mag light with D batteries if that is your goal). Vendor LightJunction shipped my product promptly and provides good service.
