The good:
I have 6 strips in my club. I've purchased a number of these and I find them to be very well engineered. All of the features of this product make it more useful than the Uhlmann reels I still have from a while back.
People often accidentally drop the cord and it goes racing back to the reel, but it doesn't slam into the housing and yank everything around. That's really good.
It doesn't slip on the floor much at all, unlike so many other reels I've seen and used. Big win there.
The way it hugs the floor keeps it out of the way.
I've had the Favero reels for almost 2 years now and they are working just great with little sign of wear. Barely a hiccup. I think they are pretty durable. I've seen them in use at other clubs for many years, and while time takes its toll on everything with moving parts, these reels just keep going.
The (sorta) bad:
I've had one of the springs near the plug start to chew up the plastic casing around the wire. It's eating its way up the casing and will make it go away in time. Might be nice to be able to attach the spring to the reel plug somehow.
The little rubber peds on the bottom of the reel are just fine for holding it in place when it's lying on the ground. But I'd like to be able to stack the reels while they are in use to save floor space and they'll just slip right off each other if I do that. I have a few strips that are end to end, so stacking them makes sense. A grippier bottom would allow you to stack them and that would be a nice improvement.
I am very satisfied with this product.
Description of Favero ReelFavero Fencing Reel, Here NOW! Thanks to an innovative, patented design, the Millennium reel does not use rotating rings with brush rub or mercury contacts. ULTRA FLAT. The reel's thickness is just 4.8cm, slightly more than the piste's height. FEWER WINDING TURNS. Therefore the reel can wind the 20-meter cable in just 20 turns. By contrast, currently available reels require 40 to 50 turns. This also causes the springs to last longer since it has fewer coils to turn. STRONG STAINLESS STEEL CASE. The case is sturdy and easy to clean. In addition, thanks to its flat, square shape, it is easy to carry and store. STEADINESS ON THE FLOOR. Thanks to its solid 4.8kg weight and its four rubber ?feet?, the reel is extremely steady - pulls on the cable during matches can hardly move the reel. INNOVATIVE BRAKING SYSTEM. The reel's design moderates the speed of winding when the cable is released from longer distances. The braking mechanism exploits centrifugal force and activates only when the reel exceeds a certain rotary speed. Strong or ?bad? pulls received by the cable at the end of the run are therefore avoided
