It takes more than strong abs to do a few sets of these. It takes a strong core. So I think by doing these, its better than just abdominal isolation exercises. By rolling the wheel to the side, you can work your obliques pretty hard too, if you want. The ab wheel is much harder than my similar Ab Dolly. So I still use both. And because this ab roller/wheel does have any rubber bands or anything (its just a wheel with handlebars), it should last a very long time.
