The multifunction bar sets up pretty much anywhere, including in a doorway, against a wall, or on the ground. When installed in the doorway, the chinning bar lets you perform pull-ups and chin-ups, so you can create a strong back and muscular biceps in no time. When on the ground, the bar's comfort grips make pushups more effective than ever, helping you build a strong, defined chest and sculpted triceps. Finally, you can rest the bar against a wall, where it holds your feet for sit-ups and other ab work. And best of all for people who want a versatile workout, the bar offers multiple grip positions that allow you to work muscles from several different angles. Sports reviews of Everlast Multi Function Chinning BarCustomer Review: The bolts are fine, use a wrench! Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
Everyone talks about the bar coming with the wrong bolts because if you try to assemble the bar with your fingers the nuts don't tighten all the way. There's a lining of blue plastic inside the nuts that help them stay in place when tightened with a wrench, but yes they will stop you if you try to put them on with your fingers. Admittedly, the instructions should have either made this clearer or come with a wrench tool.
Once assembled, the thing works great! Everyone else who complains about the "substandard" nature of the product seems not to understand how all of these door-frame chin-up bars work. This one is arguably as good as the P90X bar (depending on your grip style) for about 1/3rd of the cost, and it is way better than the other door-frame bars that cost $10-20 more.
As long as you own a wrench and a standard door-frame, I can see no reason to buy any other chin-up bar.
Customer Review: Pleased Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
Bought this item at Modell's a week ago for $34.00. The instructions weren't the clearest but it took me less than a 1/2 hr. to put together.
I'm assuming that they corrected the nuts and screws problem because mine fit without a hitch. Although it uses include push-ups and sit-ups I only use it for chin-ups and pull ups.
The 1st doorway I tried it on was unsucessful due to the frame not protuding far enough, the 2nd door too narrow due to a wall being near the door, my 3rd attempt was a perfect fit and as long as your movements are slow and deliberate you'll be safe. I wiegh 200 lbs. and it worked for me perfectly.
So,if you purchase this item make sure that you measure your doorway width and check that the frame extends at least a 1/2" from the wall.
Overall a very good, inexpensive product especially when compared with very similar items that cost almost twice as much if not more.
Customer Review: I'd Give It Fifty-Stars! Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I would give this ingenious product fifty-stars. This chinning bar works exactly as advertised. I weigh almost 260-lbs. It holds my weight even in the flimsiest of door frames. And don't I know it. I travel often and my miserly employer tends to provide budget motel rooms. Never has my chinning bar slipped. Some tips. For wider doorways, just slip a steel pipe into the bar's end and slid the foam cushioning to the desired width. Also, replace the two inside bolts on the main bar with wing nuts. That will allow you to instantly break the unit in half and thus increase portability in quantum leaps. I also love doing Matt Fury Hindu pushups with this unit. I combine a bullworker isometric work-out with Matt Furey combat calithenics and chin-ups to give me a better steroid free physique at 50-years old than much younger Bowflex models. BTW, I can do 24-underhand chins with my 260-lbs body weight.
Customer Review: Best Chin-up Bar I've ever used Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I have been using this item for about the past 5 days and man am I sore. Not only does it allow you to do multiple types of pullups, but it can also be laid on the floor to allow for PERFECT push ups as well. I am 23 years old and have been working out off and on my entire life and I have NEVER done push ups or pull ups that made me so sore or showed results so quickly. I'm not sure why other customers complained about the strength or workmanship of this item, but I can say the my dad who weighs over 260 pounds tried to use it a few days ago and the bar did not budge. I did put a sock around the wooden part that comes in direct contact with the wall because it seemed that the rough surface would probably mess the wall up pretty bad without any covering. I am very pleased with this product so far and recommend it to anyone who really wants to get serious about working their upper body.
Customer Review: Six People, All Satisfied Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I live in a dorm room with seven (7) other students all aged 18-22. Five (5) of us use the pull-up bar regularly for our workouts and even the other three (3) guys enjoy using the pull-up bar for fun. It usually stays in my closet where it is out of the way and when we want to work out we set it up on a door frame and go at it.
We are all very satisfied because of the ease with which it is set up and taken down and put away. It is a strong bar and it has not slipped even once (which was a warning I got from multiple sources). Perhaps, that is because we have thick, metal door frames to prop the bar on.
But we all love this pull-up bar a LOT more than we love doing pull-ups. Seriously, though, this thing works.
