This set is really great for studying chess moves. If you are in the middle of a game and want to keep the pieces in place for future study, this set allows you to do this. I read that you can scratch the board surface if you drag the pieces from square to square, so I am careful to lift the pieces off the board during moves. The pieces are small, but they are easily recognizable. I highly recommend this set.Customer Review: very disappointed

The board and the pieces are so tiny is it hard to move them.
The pawn and the bishop look so alike it's hard to tell which is which.
its barely possible to move a piece without touching other pieces.
also, the board is not comfortable on the eyes.
the king is like 1 inch high.

This was purchased as a gift. I've had the same set myself for over 20 years, and it has always served me admirably. It's perfect for travel since it keeps the position on the board and doesn't have to be taken down and reset for each use. And the size is large enough to see easily and yet compact enough for travel. I can't think of any way it could be improved. The beauty of it is you truly can put the cover on mid-match and put it into your backpack, confident that the pieces will not move till you're ready to resume your game. I expected that after reading the reviews, but I didn't expect it to be so distinguished looking. It is a handsome set. My son received this magnetic chess set for Christmas. He and his Dad have really enjoyed playing with this set. It is nice looking and seems durable. The really nice thing is that you can interrupt play and you can put the lid on without messing up the positions of the pieces. They stay in place. I am sure he will get many years of use out of this set.
