This is the perfect portable chess set. The cover fits under the board when in use. You can stop in the middle of a game and replace the cover to keep the pieces from getting moved. It is magnetic to keep any jostling from moving the pieces. It is a reasonable size - small enough to be conveniently portable, large enough to be fun to play. I've given these as gifts and have two sets myself for travel chess and working through problems while reading chess books. There is a wide boarder around the board where the captured pieces can be placed, leaving all the pieces attached to the board. I have to agree that this is a great travel chess set. As described by other users, you have the ability to close the set up, turn it on its side, carry it around and then open it to the same game. It seems like an obvious design.
One other reviewer mentioned that the pawns and bishops look similar. That is true. I have an older, wooden set that overcame that problem by staining the very tops of the bishops the opposite color. I always liked that look. I did the same thing with the travel set. I painted the rounded tops of the bishops the opposite color and there is no problem.

Just what we needed for our 7-year-old who suddenly got serious about chess (his school has a chess club). It is very helpful to be able to stop in the middle of a game, throw the lid on and walk away with it. Easy at restaurants, in the car, at a friend's house etc. One improvement would be that the lid snapped on securely so if you drop it from a few feet up the pieces don't scatter. Yes, our magnets fall off. We stick them back on. A little dog visiting our house chewed a castle. We're hoping to buy just one piece from the company and will update post on if that is possible.Customer Review: I love this thing!

I have to say that I love this little chess board! It enables me to study chess without having to get a larger board out. The pieces are always ready to go. You can leave a position as is to go do something and when you come back it will be just the same as you left it because of the lid and the fairly intense magnets!
Of all the products I have bought lately this is the one that is better than I ever thought it could actually be!
If you are into studying and playing chess this board is an essential!!

We take this little chess board with us everywhere! It's perfectly designed for the traveler and those who want to take chess on the go. The pieces stay PUT! Slap on the lid, tuck it in your backpack and your ready to go. This is far superior to other magnetic chess games.
The game pieces are nice quality and the game itself is well made. We are very pleased with this purchase & it gets a lot of use.
Highly recommend. It will not disappoint!
