Sports reviews of Debbie Siebers' Slim in 6Customer Review: Finally Lost Weight Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I have been working out pretty regularly and have been unsuccessful loosing weight for the last year or two. After seeing the infomercial and doing some research I decided to get it. I never missed a workout for the entire 6 weeks - I sometimes had to adjust my day off though. I was pretty good on food, but definitely went off a few times and consumed beverages that are not on a diet plan. In addition, I often incorporated an hour long dog walk even on the one day off you get. I lost 11 lbs which I think is great! Over labor day weekend and too much fun I even gained 1.5 lbs during this time. My loss was 2 inches around my waist and my pants are definitely a lot looser.
Diet - there is not much of a diet that they give you all, but there is this 6 day diet plan you can do which I did the #2 version for the very first week. I was very hungry the first few days, but also doing the easiest workout so it was okay. I thought this was good to get me kickstarted on eating better. I basically kept that diet, which was really easy to follow, but incorporated carbs, i.e. on the 6 day diet for breakfast I had an egg beater omelet with a little cheese and a bunch of fresh spinach and then after the 6 day added a multi-grain english muffin to it. They want you to have flax seed on this diet and I found I didn't enjoy it all that much in eggs, but actually like it in yogurt. One of the snacks you can have are unroasted/unsalted nuts - I found I really like that and walnuts you can't even tell the difference between roasted and raw.
Exercise - this is the really the core of the plan. You excerise 6 days a week with one day off. You start with a 30 min video which you do for just 2 days which teaches you proper moves and gets you used to it. I watched it first before I did it and it looked super easy - well my arms felt like they were going to fall off and I was sore the next day. You can do this up to a week, but even if you are sore I recommend just moving on. Then you do the 48 min one, Phase 2, for the rest of the first 2 weeks. This video had problems -- i.e. it was really annoying how she'd stop to show an alternative move and didn't bother to look to see if she was in time with the others so they literally had to stop mid stream in their moves to get in line with her, but I just stopped looking when I got to those points and kept going and it was fine. She also doesn't bother to adjust to being on TV so when she says right side, it's her right side, you will always be starting on your left. She also will often start on one side and end on one side so it's not even - but who cares is the mentality I had to take and it was fine. I was going to rate down for this, but I decided that if for the first time in 2 years I can get 10+ lighter than it's worth 5 stars. The third workout is much better which is good since you'll do that for the remaining 4 weeks. I really like the very simple calendar they gave you to mark and X for every day you worked out, when you get to half way, how could you stop!
I really didn't think I'd like this since I enjoy cardio and don't really like weight workouts and hate pushups. But I started to actually like pushups as I was proud that I could do them all by the end pretty easily. Also, your legs will never not hurt for the entire 6 weeks during the floor leg work so you are happy to do pushups just to stop doing the legs - she's a genius just for that. You will likely laugh out loud in disbelief when you get to week 2 as you won't believe it when she says 8 more and giggles. Each workout is herself in the front with a man and women in the background and she sometimes stops to check on their moves and points out things that you should be aware of as far as form. I think this workout would be good for men & women - she's very professional, so to speak.
I did not do the 2 day fast. I didn't buy the Slimming Formula that their web site sells at the beginning, but I ended up buying it. Not sure if it helps or not, but I still use it. You take it right before you eat your meals, so easy to remember. If you cannot put in at least an hour of exercise a day pretty much every day than this will not be for you. I suggest 30 min - 60 mins of light cardio (like walking) in addition to this for max results which is part of the 6 day diet plan, so again I think it's good that you do that the first week to just start getting used to that as your program for the entire 6 weeks.
By the way the beachbody website says you also get a coach which is complete bull. I immediately was assigned a coach and received an e-mail from her that was canned asking for a response on my goals, I responded right away and never, ever received anything again. Also, it showed all the workouts of their's that she did and Slim in 6 was not one of them so why she was assigned in the first place - I can only guess that they hope that she'd sell me on a different program to buy more. Well I did buy the next series in Slim in 6 with no help from her. Anyway, their website & "coach" is pretty useless.
