Sports reviews of Currie EZip Trailz Step Thru Women's Electric BikeCustomer Review: I bought two Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
(overall) Strongly recommend! My ordinary bike was stolen at a train station. Through research on internet, I found this e-bike by Currie to have the best price, newest design, and excellent reviews. So I bought one for myself on 9/28/2010; liked it so much; soon bought another for my wife on 10/15/2010. We are so pleased with the purchases, and making great use of them now. Here is my report.
(where bought) I usually order things from Amazon. But I found a better price for bike and pannier in one combined package at Costco. I made both orders to them.
(shipping) The shipping was free and fast. The big boxes were delivered via UPS within 3-4 days. There was no damage whatsoever as some other customers of Amazon reported.
(assembling) I understand that the vendor first assembles the entire bike at factory, having it tested. Then the bike was separated into big parts: front wheel, fork/handle bar, paddles, saddle, and main frame, etc. prior to shipping. All I needed to do was to screw these big parts together using the two simple tools that came with the bike. It sounds so simple. But it took me 3 hours to assemble the first bike by myself. With experience, the second bike took me less than one hour to assemble.
(operation) Cannot be easier! On left hand bar, there are 7 gears to suit different slope conditions: 1-3 steep, 4-5 gentle, and 6-7 level slopes. On right hand bar, there are three lights to show battery conditions (green/full, amber/half, red/empty), and a red bottom to toggle between TAG (twist and go) and PAS (peddle assist) mode. When in TAG mode, I just twist the throttle the bike will run to full speed like a motorcycle. If I don't twist the throttle, it works like an ordinary non-electric bike. I find TAG mode especially useful when I need ample accelerations to cross a street, after stopping for a STOP sign or a traffic light. When in PAS mode, the motor will assist my peddling. I find PAS mode makes uphill biking effortless and enjoyable.
(use) It's a hybrid --- suitable for urban cruising as well as mountain biking. First, I use it as urban cruiser, riding on city streets between home and rail station, 5 miles each day. I need to charge the battery only once a week. Second, my wife and I use them as mountain bikes for exercise and adventure. We load the bikes inside our Toyota mini-van, drove to Solvang, Santa Ynez, Paso Robles and Santa Barbara, riding the bikes on both paved road and unpaved dirt grounds. The bikes are so well-built and powerful. We just twist the throttle, and the bike moves, up and down the slopes, very easy to control, what a joy! Without these bikes, we would not be able to ride high up in mountainous wineries, on beaches and many other scenic spots. There are still many bike paths in LA area awaiting our visit.
(accessories) We have added following items to the bikes: Trico X-large seat cover for comfort, Nirve Bells, Planet Bike Beamer 3 lights, mirrors, cables by OnGuard to lock the seat and pannier together, and most importantly, LS U-locks by Kryptonite and by OnGuard to lock the frame and wheel to bike racks (my previous bike was stolen because I only used an ordinary cable lock). All accessories except seat covers were bought from Amazon.
(any complaint) I am 5'6". My both feet can touch to ground comfortably, so I can ride safely. My wife is 5'2". She wishes that the saddle can be lowered by 4". The saddle is at lowest position now; her feet can only touch the ground half way. This is the only complaint. She still enjoys it greatly.

(battery) The Sealed Leaded Acid battery is heavy (16 lb), but easy to be put in and taken off the bike. According Currie Customer Service in Chatsworth, CA, to maximize the performance and useful life of battery, one should (1) fully charge the battery before first use; (2) run the bike until the battery is totally dead then recharge it to full; (3) repeat step 2 two more times; (4) now the battery is in optimal condition. Then after each subsequent ride, recharge it to full overnight, but don't overcharge for more than 24 hours.
I was also reminded by an Authorized Dealer in Pasadena CA, when recharging, always connect charger cable to the battery first; then plug charger to the wall outlet. After recharging, always unplug first, then disconnect charger from battery. This sequence will avoid unexpected damage to the charger and battery.

I found these two informative links on the blog of [...]. They are shot on a mountain Trailz bike, but quite applicable to the women's Trailz Ezip being reviewed here.
