Sports reviews of Crosman Remington Nitro Piston.177 Caliber Nitro Piston Air Rifle with Digital Camo Stock (Includes 3-9X40mm Scope)Customer Review: Supersonic power Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
Scope mounting:
When i opened the box I started mounting the scope but like another reviewer mentioned, they shipped it with WEAVER rings that don't fit the 11mm dovetail! So I immediately called remington and they are sending me the correct rings. Luckily I had an extra UTC weaver to 11mm adaptor that I used in the meantime. I started dialing the scope in and found that the adaptor+scope kept slipping back even after I cranked it down and put loctite on it. The little plastic cover piece it was hitting, cracked after repeated shots. I ended up removing the cover and used the screw hole to mount the UTC adaptor. Worked perfectly.
Pellets:
I've shot roughly 200 rounds so far using various .177 pellets. So far it liked the Crossman destroyer the best at 7.9gn. I believe that the rifle likes heavier pellets so I will buy some 8+gn. The RWS Diabolo basic 7.0gn were okay. The worst are the crossman hunting pointed 7.4gn. They were all over the place.
Power:
I did a yellow pages test using the 3 different pellets. Even though the crossman pointed were the worst at accuracy, they went through 950 pages!! Meaning page 950 was the last page that was torn. I couldn't believe the power. The RWS was 711, and the destroyers were 589. The test was done at 3".
loading:
The rifle is hard to cock. My friend, a chiropractor says that I could strain my shoulder muscles by pulling the barrel down. So I ended up gripping the rifle barrel pointed down, and then pulling the butt stock down like a big lever arm. That made it much easier, but it was still much more difficult than his gamo whisper. I hope it gets better over time. (The NPSS is actually slightly quieter and has less recoil!)
Trigger:
I adjusted the 2 stage trigger so it has a long creeping 1st stage until, i could feel the hold point at the 2nd. If I loosened it more, the gun just goes off. So I backed it off an 1/8 turn. The adjustment screw was also moving on its own after firing a couple rounds so I put some loctite on it, which did the trick.
