Description of Creative Fitness Door Gym

The Door Gym stands head and shoulders above the competition. This versatile device can be set up in seconds on almost any door frame and lets you work out in the convenience of your own home or office. It latches on without screws, bolts or fasteners, so you won't leave holes in your door trim. A cantilever design uses your own body weight (up to 300 lbs.) to keep it in place. Door Gym is more than a simple pull-up, chin-up bar. It also has two protruding close-grip handles that let you work out with your palms facing each other, a good position for isolating the muscles in the center of your back that control posture. In addition, you can use Door Gym on the ground as a push-up bar and a sit-up spotter.

Sports reviews of Creative Fitness Door Gym

Customer Review: Works as advertised, simple and effective
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

After reading the reviews, I wondered if I'd be able to assemble this product. It's hard to be certain when half the reviews say "completely worthless", and the other half say "awesome product." After the speedy delivery by Karate Depot, I was satisfied. It took less than 10 minutes to put together. The screws, for some reason, are just barely long enough to fit. There are only two pairs of screws, so if you try using the wrong pair in the wrong holes, you're not going to get anywhere; with the included washers, there is just barely enough room for the bolts. This is not helped by the almost humorously poor instructions. Perhaps these factors caused the other reviewers to be disappointed; or perhaps the screws were mispackaged in their boxes and were actually too short. In my case, I've had the product for about two months, and have done around 75 pull-ups a week, and have had no problems whatsoever.

Once put together, the product works great on doors that meet its specifications (you can see the specs online, so check before you buy! Most standard doors will work). I definitely recommend an old sock or other added cushioning; there is not damage to the wall above the door, but there are occasional black streaks. These streaks can be removed easily with a cleaning product such as a magic eraser, so I'll accept them over other pull-up bars that require drilling into the door frame.

I highly recommend this product. Trust me, this thing can be put together and used without coming down on your head. I think pull-ups are a great exercise, and I know of no easier way to do them in the comfort of your home.

Customer Review: Before ordering, check measurements to be sure:
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I was really unsure at first whether or not this product would work with my bedroom door, so I measured everything according to the specs that were provided on the Creative Fitness Door Gym's website. This product page on amazon should include these measurements as it greatly helped me in figuring out if I should really take a chance in ordering this or not, especially because the only door I could use this on was in very close proximity to another door (photos posted of the proximity). According to what is stated on the aforementioned website: The Door Gym is designed to fit residential (framed) doorways from 24" to 32" (up to 45" with the extensions)
1) Face molding around door: minimum 1 1/2" - maximum 3 1/2"
2) Molding distance from wall: minimum 1/4" - maximum 3/4"
3) Wall thickness: minimum 4 1/4" - maximum 6 1/4" (trim to trim).

I decided to order this product as the particular bedroom door I wanted to use appeared to meet the requirements: 32" Doorway + 2" on each side for the molding = 36"
1) 2" face molding around door
2) distance from wall: 1/2"
3) wall thickness: 5 1/2"

Assembling this product is really easy and fast. And thankfully this product fit perfectly on my doorway and I have had no problems with it after a month of using it. In the beginning, I admit I was nervous about actually using this, as I feared it might come crashing down, but it is honestly very sturdy. If your doorway fits the measurements provided, then you should definitely get this, you won't regret it!

Customer Review: Excellent, relatively cheap upper body workout
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I have used the door gym for several months (exclusively for pull-ups, but also useful for deep pushups and situps), and have found it to be an excellent cost effective workout for the upper body. It can be installed and uninstalled literally in seconds on your doorway. (Caution: measure your doorway of interest to assure compatibility with the Door Gym's specifications). The foam padding on the bar that provides support over the doorway is more than adequate to protect your wall's paint. In fact, the padding that rests on the door jambs also do a commendable job of not ruining your door's finish. That said, use common sense (ie, it's not a monkey bar) and don't horse around on it, and your door should be pristine. The door gym comes with four screws, 2 are shorter than the others, and at first glance, seem to be a mistake (as some of the reviewers stated). The two shorter screws (if I recall correctly) are for securing the door gym to the red padded bar that goes over the door. You need to push fairly FIRMLY on the screw (which has been threaded through the door gym and red padded bar) in order to secure the nut onto it. Once it's on, tighten with a wrench, and the opposite side will be easier. Areas for improvement? The instructions could obviously be clearer, judging from the previous reviewers' comments about assembly problems. Also, padding the wide grip areas would permit even more choices (in terms of comfort to the hands) of grips for pull-ups. Effective, relatively cheap, portable, and kind to your door is my take on the Door Gym:)

Customer Review: Does what it is supposed to. No assembly instructions.
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

Assembly
I was not confused by the directions -- because I didn't get any. By looking carefully at the various pictures of the product, I was able to assemble it in about 5 minutes using only the little "wrench" that comes with it, but obviously good instructions would be a plus for most purchasers.

Fit
It would not have fit the door frames at my office properly, but fit the one at home just fine. I haven't yet seen any marks on the door, frame or wall.

Use
I ended up with the padding on the center section of the bar. If I really wanted the padding, I would move it out since I could only use it with a very narrow grip. My girlfriend can barely do a pull up so she is starting by holding the bar and then jumping to help get herself up, and then doing a negative -- resisting as she is pulled back down. I think in a month she will be able to do a few decent pull ups and then she won't need the jump. We haven't used it for sit ups or push ups -- I don't think a device is needed for those, and overly deep push ups or bench presses over stress the shoulders, in my opinion.

Storage and Installation
The product is quite light weight and very easy to put in place and take down.

Shipping
As another reviewer noted, the actual box for the product is very compact. For some reason Amazon sent it inside another box that could hold about 8 of them. Better safe than sorry I suppose.

I would recommend the product as part of a home fitness regimen.

Customer Review: best pullup bar EVER
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I've been doing pullups for awhile now, preparing for Marine PLC, and The Door Gym has been a huge help. At home I have a permanent bar in my doorway, which I used often when I lived there. However, now I'm at college, and I'm living in a dorm; thus, installing a traditional bar in my room could cost me tons of money in damage fees. Prior to getting the door gym I had to walk all the way to the fitness center to do pullups- but no more!

Since buying this inventive little bar, I can crank out 100+ pullups each day, doing them everytime I have 5-10 free minutes. I was afraid that since the moulding on the doors in my room are very smooth and rediculously shallow that the bar would slip. I was also skeptical that a cheap bar assembled with screws and washers could hold even my meager 160 lbs body. Luckily, the door gym has stood the test, and continues to work flawlessly.

If you are a pullup-veteran, then you've probably seen how quickly the muscles involved weaken when you get out of a routine, even when other excercises are performed to compensate. For me, it was not unusual to go on vacation for a week, and come back to find that I could only do 12-14 pullups instead of my usual 17. I no longer worry about how to stay in shape while traveling, as the door gym can easily be packed in checked luggage.

For anyone serious about improving thier pullups, the door gym is a relatively cheap, effective, and mobile solution.
