Used this for the first time this past weekend, so I've only had limited experience so far. (I'll update this review if I run into a problem later.) Some brief highlights:
* The lantern works quite well. It puts out a good deal of light and is well constructed.
*Like other reviewers, I am concerned about the possibility of cross threading the soft aluminum header in the lantern versus the propane tanks. When attached the propane, take your time and be careful not to over tighten.
* I think it is well worth the money to buy the version with the hard case. It is a nice case, easy to put the lantern away and makes is great to pack.
* Like any propane product, there is some propane "hiss" while it burns, but I didn't find it bothersome. Possibly I expected some, so wasn't surprised.
* This lantern does NOT have a ignition built in,so you have to use a match or a small torch, but it was easy enough to light.
Overall, a good lantern. We'll see how it holds up with time. The only reason for the 4stars instead of 5 is the issue with the soft aluminum threads.
August 2010 Follow Up: Still using it and it is working great! We don't camp all that frequently, so I won't say we've given this a hard workout, but it gets used each summer and is always up for the task. Still strongly suggested.

I've used Coleman lanterns for a long time now and have always thought highly of them. So when I started looking for a new one and saw they now come with a protective case, I was sold. That was the only bad thing about the old lanterns, it was easy to bread the globe during transportation and storage if you weren't careful. This case looks like it will stop that in almost any situation. It also opens up very wide to make it easy to load the lantern(minus the propane, its a little safer that way) into the case correctly and securely. Great product overall.
