The light operates on four AA batteries (sold separately). When I first read the reviews on this light I wasn't so sure. Have only used it once but it was great! Gives off enough light for a tent and I like the fact that you can put it on the side wall of the tent and not just on the top! This product is unique and versatile. It has a typical hole so it can be hung on a nail, stuck onto a metal surface since the back is magnetic or hung anyplace on a tent using a convenient metal bar. Great light!! The magnet is VERY strong. We have a Columbian Gazebo on our patio. It's pretty large, the light is bright enough to make anything inside visible. We've used this light for many camping trips and we love it. The strong magnet holds the light securly in place without slipping. It can easily and quickly be moved from outside to inside the tent. When my son and his family camp out they read to the boys at night. This light has worked well as an overhead light and is bright enough to read by. They place it right above the door. One person can do it and it's protected under the tent fly. A great product!
