Lantern, 8D Double U-Tube RuggedLight up your campsite with instant, long-lasting illumination with the Coleman rugged battery-powered lantern. The family-size lantern boasts a 13-watt fluorescent twin U-tube bulb that delivers a bright white light, along with a heavy-duty thermoplastic and rubber housing that holds up to heavy use. More significantly, the lantern will keep your tent well lit for hours, with a runtime of up to 28 hours on the low setting and 18 hours on the high setting (the lantern runs on eight D batteries, sold separately). And should the bulb eventually burn out, you can replace it in seconds thanks to the lantern's quick-release system. Other details include a comfortable handle grip, an easy three-position switch (off, low, and high), a weather- and shatter-resistant exterior, and a nonslip rubberized grip. The lantern--which runs cool thanks to the cool-touch bulb design--measures 9 inches in diameter and 15.25 inches tall and weighs 3.26 pounds without the batteries.

Recently we had a black out and my small lantern did not work so we worked off candles. I have a small child and knowing that isn't safe the next day I ordered this lantern. I was so shocked by the BIG size when it arrived that I am glad I made the purchase.. We will never be in the dark again and I am thrilled to know that the candles will never have to be lit again for a power outage... GREAT purchase. I bought two of these 8 D-cell lanterns for an impending storm, and sure enough the storm happened. Two of these lanterns could light the main floor of our house enough to comfortably walk around and see everything. I was told that one of our neighbors thought we had a generator. So, stock up on batteries next time there's a sale, and be ready for those power blackouts.Customer Review: Fabulous lantern!

LOVE this lantern. It's rechargeable (indoors OR via car cigarette lighter) and the best part is that there is a storage compartment on the bottom of the lantern for the power charging cords, so they DON'T GET LOST. Wicked bright, Wicked durable. It is pretty large, so if you're looking for something compact it's not for you. But I HIGHLY recommend it.Customer Review: Great emergency lighting

The weather has been brutal this year in the northeast.
We recently lost power for three days, and these lanterns were a godsend.
They're sturdy, well made, and light up a huge room.
And like similar products, they don't seem to eat up the batteries as much.
We have two, but I definitely plan on ordering a few more.

I just bought this lantern for camping and it works great. I would highly recommend it. It takes a lot of batteries but it lasts a long time and is very bright. The smaller version takes less batteries but works about the same. I have now added this lantern to my hurricane supplies, as it will come in handy if I lose power this season.
