Description of Coleman Retro Rechargeable Battery Powered Lantern (Family Size)Lantern, Retro Full Size, Rechargeable Tired of camping lanterns that burn through batteries like nobody's business? Turn to the Coleman rechargeable lantern, which offers up to nine hours of runtime on a single charge. The family-size lantern features an 11-watt fluorescent spiral U-tube bulb that shines brightly regardless of its locale, with a reflector that directs the light upward and outward so more people can enjoy it. Should the bulb burn out, the lantern offers a quick-release lever for easy bulb replacement (an extra tube is included). Most importantly, when the lantern starts to lose power, you can easily recharge the battery via a 120-volt AC outlet or a vehicle's 12-volt DC power port (cords included). That means you can recharge the lantern before leaving on a trip, or you can recharge it at the campsite using your car's lighter port. Other details include an "emergency on" circuit that helps overcome power failures, a built-in nightlight, and a recyclable battery. The lantern--which also runs extremely cool to protect against fires--measures 6.75 by 14 by 8 inches (W x H x D) and weighs 7.78 pounds. About Coleman The Coleman Company has been creating and innovating products for recreational outdoor use since W.C. Coleman started selling gasoline-powered lanterns in 1900. Inventor of the hugely popular fold-up camp stove, Coleman developed a plastic liner for his galvanized steel coolers in 1957--the birth of the modern cooler--and the company has been improving their utility and design ever since. The array of products that bear the Coleman name now includes just about everything you might need to work or play outdoors, from tents and sleeping bags to boats, backpacks, and furniture.
Sports reviews of Coleman Retro Rechargeable Battery Powered Lantern (Family Size)Customer Review: Best, Safest and Hassle Free!! Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
The best lantern! Through my over 1/2 a century of camping and using old Coleman white gas/colemand fluid type and then the propane bottle type. This lantern is wonderful. Bought one last season just to try and now have 3 of them. Passed on the old one's to my son. No more mantels, transporting extra bottles of propane, cleaner, safer and do not run out of fuel while using. I used them on several 6 day trips last summer and never had to recharge on the trip. No hazzle, light wt., and excellent candle power. Thanks Coleman! Environementally Great too! No more propane bottles to dispose of!
Customer Review: One For Every Home Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
Every home should have one of these. Leave it plugged in and turned on. The bulb does not illuminate until the unit senses the electricity is off. Test it by unplugging the power cord. Presto! the light comes on. I gave one to my elderly parents and I have one too. It's hard to believe you can get an emergency lighting system that cheap. Test it right away when you get it because Amazon doesn't splurge on packing material when shipping (or someone in shipping just didn't care). It's a wonder it made it here rolling around in the box. But if it works, you're good to go.
Customer Review: Great lantern Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I bought this lantern after a planned productive night before a grad school deadline was ruined by the electricity going out. I needed a way to study and read without having to rig up flashlights. I chose this model so that I would never have to worry about batteries. It's been immensely helpful since then. I keep it charged, and when the lights come back on, I make sure to plug it back in. I've never needed it for a long enough stretch that it's run out of charge. I highly recommend it for home use. It would probably be very useful for camping etc.
Customer Review: An excellent alternative to fuel lanterns for power outages Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
This was just what I was looking for to give my mother in case of a power outage. She would not be at all comfortable using a fuel powered lantern and I did not want to give her something that required batteries. This way she only needs to recharge the lantern twice a year unless she has occasion to use it and it should be ready to go in case the power goes out. I was very please with the amount of light the lantern gave off. I'm seriously considering getting one for myself, although I already have 2 fuel lanterns.
Customer Review: Love this lantern! Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
We have been using kerosene lanterns in the evening at our cabin with no electricity. We got this to use mostly in the kitchen, even during the day as there is no light coming in there. It works great! It's on its third weekend, and is still going on the one time I charged it at home before heading up there! We don't use the nightlight feature but it all works great! I would highly recommend this lantern to anyone looking for an effecient way to light the way without messy kerosene, or having to buy batteries!
