Description of Coleman Retro Rechargeable Battery Powered Lantern (Family Size)Lantern, Retro Full Size, Rechargeable Tired of camping lanterns that burn through batteries like nobody's business? Turn to the Coleman rechargeable lantern, which offers up to nine hours of runtime on a single charge. The family-size lantern features an 11-watt fluorescent spiral U-tube bulb that shines brightly regardless of its locale, with a reflector that directs the light upward and outward so more people can enjoy it. Should the bulb burn out, the lantern offers a quick-release lever for easy bulb replacement (an extra tube is included). Most importantly, when the lantern starts to lose power, you can easily recharge the battery via a 120-volt AC outlet or a vehicle's 12-volt DC power port (cords included). That means you can recharge the lantern before leaving on a trip, or you can recharge it at the campsite using your car's lighter port. Other details include an "emergency on" circuit that helps overcome power failures, a built-in nightlight, and a recyclable battery. The lantern--which also runs extremely cool to protect against fires--measures 6.75 by 14 by 8 inches (W x H x D) and weighs 7.78 pounds. About Coleman The Coleman Company has been creating and innovating products for recreational outdoor use since W.C. Coleman started selling gasoline-powered lanterns in 1900. Inventor of the hugely popular fold-up camp stove, Coleman developed a plastic liner for his galvanized steel coolers in 1957--the birth of the modern cooler--and the company has been improving their utility and design ever since. The array of products that bear the Coleman name now includes just about everything you might need to work or play outdoors, from tents and sleeping bags to boats, backpacks, and furniture.
Sports reviews of Coleman Retro Rechargeable Battery Powered Lantern (Family Size)Customer Review: DISPOSABLE Sport shop rating: 1 StarsImpossible to find the right replacement bulb! I've tried every avenue from Amazon to the chains and NO ONE carries this bulb.
When the bulb burns out (and it will in no time) it's land fill material.
Coleman is not what it once was. Last three items were garbage.
Customer Review: Good Lantern Sport shop rating: 5 StarsI was skeptical of this lantern at first as I always camped with fuel lanterns all my life. With a 3 and 4 year old running around a camp site, I had second thoughts about propane or kerosene light sources. I just used this on a weekend camping trip and it performed wonderfully and I didn't worry if the kids got too close to it. Once the bulb warms up fully it is a very bright lantern. We kept the night light on all night with no problem. The charge lasted a little longer than stated when I was putting it through a couple of charge cycles before our trip. Since its a lead-acid battery, I don't worry about battery memory so I would plug it in in the morning to charge during the day and use at night. So far I'm very happy with this product. Battery is warranted for 5 years, time will tell.
Customer Review: not as described Sport shop rating: 1 StarsI like the lantern itself. It's bright enough and the battery makes it heavy enough to be very stable.
But it does not come with the 12v cigarette lighter plug adapter,(part #501000320) which is clearly listed in the 'products features'
I send an email to Amazon stating the problem and requested the adapter.
Amazon responded by FedExing me a new lantern which I got the next day.
(I order many things from Amazon even if they are higher just because of this service.)
The new lantern...same missing item.
I sent an email to Ron's Hardware, who distributes these lanterns. They totally ignored me not even offering me the courtesy of an excuse.
The bottom line is, it's a great lantern if you don't think you need the 12v adapter. I expected it and considered it a necessary part of the purchase.
Customer Review: Wonderful Sport shop rating: 5 StarsI wish I had this lantern years ago. Since I puchased it, it has come in handy 3 times in power outs. I leave it plugged in and when the power goes out the lantern comes on and lights up the whole room. No more stubbed toes. (Ouch)
Customer Review: Super bright but heavy Sport shop rating: 4 StarsBright lantern with multiple settings. Love the yellow/orange night light.
Only down side is that it's super heavy due to the battery. But I am not going to complain too much about it since I am using it for car camping and the solid weight is actually good thing to have when it's windy out.
