The family-size lantern features an 11-watt fluorescent spiral U-tube bulb that shines brightly regardless of its locale, with a reflector that directs the light upward and outward so more people can enjoy it. Should the bulb burn out, the lantern offers a quick-release lever for easy bulb replacement (an extra tube is included). Most importantly, when the lantern starts to lose power, you can easily recharge the battery via a 120-volt AC outlet or a vehicle's 12-volt DC power port (cords included). That means you can recharge the lantern before leaving on a trip, or you can recharge it at the campsite using your car's lighter port. Other details include an "emergency on" circuit that helps overcome power failures, a built-in nightlight, and a recyclable battery. The lantern--which also runs extremely cool to protect against fires--measures 6.75 by 14 by 8 inches (W x H x D) and weighs 7.78 pounds.

Well built & heavy. Actually it holds a curly type bulb, not a u-shaped tube, giving off more light. Storage in bottom for the 12-volt car charger. The built-in nite light is actually rather bright, bright enough for leaving on in a tent while sleeping. So far very satisfied with the purchase. Years ago I used a Coleman propane light which ran very hot, and unsafe to leave on in a tent while sleeping. This makes more sense. Eco-friendly. Guess you can re-charge it during the daytime off your car battery, except it takes many hours. Update 7/2008: We had our first 3 hour power outage last nite. This lantern worked great! Actually, I found that running it on low was bright enough to find my way around the house. Left it on the "night light" setting after returning to the bedroom. I was skeptical of this lantern at first as I always camped with fuel lanterns all my life. With a 3 and 4 year old running around a camp site, I had second thoughts about propane or kerosene light sources. I just used this on a weekend camping trip and it performed wonderfully and I didn't worry if the kids got too close to it. Once the bulb warms up fully it is a very bright lantern. We kept the night light on all night with no problem. The charge lasted a little longer than stated when I was putting it through a couple of charge cycles before our trip. Since its a lead-acid battery, I don't worry about battery memory so I would plug it in in the morning to charge during the day and use at night. So far I'm very happy with this product. I have owned this identical lantern for about 5 years and can not say enough great things about it! I love the fact that it is rechargeable and the charge lasts for a very, very long time. I frequently go camping for long weekends (3 nights) - and the lantern charge has always lasted much longer than I need. The brightness of this lantern is much better than the fuel-burning lanterns, and no more pumping and running out of fuel! I also keep this charged at home and in the event of power outages, I have a light ready to go!!! I have purchased this lantern as gifts and everybody is amazed that they ever went camping without one! If you don't like to leave you house, shopping online with Amazon is the best thing since sliced bread. Don't concern yourself about the weight of the lantern. The benefits of owning this lantern far outweigh the convenience of a great product. Besides,shipping is Free and quick!
This Coleman rechargeable lantern is very attractive providing more than adequate lighting after the sun goes down. When working on your vehicle at night or working anywhere in the evening, I would certainly recommend this product to any family member.

This thing looks and works great and puts out plenty of light for catfishing at night off the pier or boat. The nightlight is a convenience addition for small needs. The cover to the nightlight was broken when the lantern arrived, but one call to Coleman customer service fixed the problem for free - a new cover arrived 2 days later. It's a relief to work with companies like Amazon and Coleman who understand what customer service is! Thanks
