Convenient, powerful lighting is an essential component of any successful outdoor adventure, and the Coleman MicroPacker lantern is a compact, space-saving illuminator. This battery-powered, "personal size" lantern runs up to 15 hours on three AAA batteries, and stays cool to the touch. Two bright, long-lasting, 0.5-millimeter LEDs provide a surprising amount of light, while the reflector slides up to project a forward-shining beam for flashlight-style use. A collapsible design folds down by half for easy packing, and the 7.5-inch tall lantern weighs just seven ounces, including batteries.

The Coleman Limited Warranty
All Coleman products have a warranty against defects in material and workmanship, and the MicroPacker Compact Battery Lantern includes a limited one-year manufacturer's warranty.

About Coleman Outdoor Products
More than 100 years ago, an entrepreneurial young man named W.C. Coleman had an idea for manufacturing better lanterns in Wichita, Kansas. A century later, Coleman's current catalog features a wide-ranging array of products that make spending time outside a pleasure. The company crafts coolers that keep food and drinks cold for days, airbeds that are comfortable and won't deflate during the night, a complete line of bright and long-lasting LED lights, powerful portable grills that cook with an authentic open-grill flame, and more.

Sports reviews of Coleman MicroPacker Compact Battery Lantern

Customer Review: Great little lantern for those who travel lite
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I bought this primarily for motorcycle camping. That means size matters...and the smaller the size, the better. I've taken other styles of lantern along on previous trips, but they (especially the ones with a "traditional" looking lantern shape, wide and with a flanged cap at top) took up too much room and were hard to pack. They were also not the LED type, and they went through batteries quickly and tended to flicker and fade in a short time.

The MicroPacker is small, sturdy, easy to pack (as it's name would suggest), and reliable. I've taken it on several trips this year and it serves it's purpose well.

No, it's not terribly bright. But it's bright enough to read by, illuminate my tent, light up a tabletop, and to walk around with after dark.

A big plus with me is the fact that it requires "regular" batteries as opposed to a stack of tiny clock batteries, something that is becoming common these days. I avoid camping products that utilize battery types that aren't readily available at say, any gas station mini-mart that I'm likely to come across while on the road.

If your main requirement is a very bright lite, you'll have to look elsewhere.
But it you're looking for a simple, small, affordable, and useful lantern, I'd recommend this one.

Customer Review: Great LED lantern!
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

First there seem to be two different versions of this product .. with similar (or identical) names. The product I am reviewing is the one (pictured) with a yellow plastic case and a diffuser around the LED's. The other model has a grey case and no diffuser. The other one appears to have an upside down conical reflector to spread the light, but I'm not sure since I've only seen photos and not the actual item. It also costs more than the yellow one.

The (yellow) unit is GREAT! I own a couple of other LED lanterns and this is by far the best I've seen. The technology is always advancing and something better will come out I'm sure, but right now (and for a while I think) this is a really good choice.

I used one on a recent camping trip and it was more than enough light to illuminate my picnic table at night for cooking. Of course, the light is not as bright as a flourescent, or gas lantern. The pattern is fairly even (unlike all my other LED lanterns) Throwing light both sideways and up and down (dead spot directly under the base, of course).

After my camping trip I came home and purchase two more of these. One to keep at work, and the other to keep in the car.

Customer Review: Phenomenal emergency light
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

My wife and I bought two of these on a Tuesday for a weekend camping trip and, lo and behold, the next night a storm knocked out the power. These were a godsend. Absolutely fantastic. They aren't the world's brightest things because of a reflective sleeve that casts the light in a fairly uniform direction, but once it gets darker, they're easily brighter 2-3 candles and without the fear of accidentally leaving one on to burn down your house. With good alkalines, they could easily run for weeks due to the low power draw of the LED's. These are fantastic emergency lights for the house, car, etc. And at the going price of $10, they just can't be beat. I highly recommend them and have already urged my entire family to stock up.

They work very well for camping too. ;)

PS I would recommend staying away from the "exponent" line of Coleman LED lanterns. They're designed poorly as far as light distribution and LED placement.

Customer Review: Great little compact camping light
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

Our friends had one of these when we went camping a few weeks ago, and it was so great I ordered it the minute we got back home.

We used it for the first time this weekend, and it was perfect. Small and lightweight, it uses 3 AA batteries (supplied!), and gives off a very even light.

Inside the tent, we hung it from the top loop and used it to read by.

The light isn't extremely bright (I wouldn't want to do brain surgery with this as the only light source), but it's very even and doesn't create any glare.

Earlier in the evening, my husband allayed our fears of its fragility by dropping it on the cement - it didn't break, chip or even show a scratch, and worked perfectly afterwards.

It takes up the same space as a flashlight, but is way more useful for our needs - so the flashlight's out, and the Coleman's in!
