I have seen other reviewers' reviews about the size of the shovel. It is small but it does exactly what I bought it to do. When I get stuck I can easily pull out this little thing and dig myself out. And as much as I hate to admit it, I've done that more times than I should admit. It has been sturdy enough and large enough for my husband to use to dig a small hole as well.
If you are looking for a larger shovel that is more shovel like in size, this is not it. If you are looking for something that is small, easy to store, and sturdy enough to dig a small hole, this is a good one to have.

It's small. The blade part is about the size of the palm of my hand. It's kind of heavy for it's size. I took it to the Buffalo River for a canoeing, camping trip. Size and weight were a consideration. Altogether, I'm happy. It was perfect for scooping sand onto a fire to extinguish it, as well as digging latrines. Very compact, but also very sturdy once assembled. Saw is useless, that's why I bought the Gerber 46048 Sportsman's wood saw. Didn't use the pick. When folded up in the pouch, it will fit easily in a cargo pants pocket, or stick it in your pack.Customer Review: very nice

I was surprised with how small the shovel actually is (I guess my own fault for not looking at dimensions). However, i am actually happy it is small as this makes it easier for packing with my gear for some canoe camping. I haven't owned it long enough to comment on durability yet. The price was great for a pretty nice shovel (not sure yet if I will get any use out of the pick, but I guess it can't hurt to have it there).Customer Review: Nice

Coleman is a quality standard that you expect things from. I think that for nine dollars, you would have to be extremely stingy not to buy this. The quality is easily worth 20 dollars or more. I recommend buying this, because it seems like something that you could store anywhere and use more than once. I completely recommend this product for this price. I didn't pay close enough attention to the size of the shovel so it is a bit smaller than I was hoping. I have used it a couple of times though and it is very heavy duty and gets the job done. It comes with a nice little bag to put it in so it stores nicely in my trunk. Some day I may need it and it will be there.
