Metal connecting the axe head to the handle looks skeptical, and is slightly malleable if it connects with wood.
There's not a whole lot to say about this axe other than its very good for its price. I have used it to split several logs and fall several dead trees, and have taken it on camping and backpacking trips. Taking it for week long trips says enough already about how I trust this cheap and durable tool. and I'd say its perfect for what purpose it serves because the field tends to beat axes around quite hard. As is, I paid $8 for the axe at my neighboring Target so its MSRP of around $10 is very reasonable. The steel retains an edge surprisingly well for being lower in carbon, and is easy to sharpen with a file or whetstone. The thickness of the camp axe allows it to baton with some great effectiveness. I've had some friends throw it around and the grip still looks brand new and nothing a few runs of a file could not fix for the edge.
The axe makes a great 2 in 1 tool for camping if you consider it a hammer, which actually works better than a lot of cheaper hammers.
I'm not sure if the metal connecting bar is half tang or not in the grip, but my intuition tells me that if this hatchet/camp axe is going to fail, it is going to have to do with the metal bar snapping or bending severely off hitting wood. That is, however, largely superficial and anyone who uses it correctly should have a good run with this axe.
That's about it, good buy for $10, enough said.
