Description of Coleman 5053A751 ProCat Perfectemp Catalytic Propane Heater with Instastart Technology

Heater, ProCat E.I. Catalytic 3,000 BTU
The Coleman 5053A751 ProCat Portable Catalytic Propane Heater with Electronic Ignition provides consistent heat where no other sources are available without the danger of open flames. Whether you need a backup heater for power outages or want to heat a garage, shop, tent, boat, or ice shanty, this cordless heater for indoor use is ready to go wherever you might need some warmth.

Constructed with 3,000 BTU output, the catalytic heater with platinum technology provides flameless heat from a pressure-regulated propane fuel system that produces a steady fuel stream, even in cold weather, at high altitudes, or when fuel is low. The starting mechanism is a fast-acting piezoelectric sparker that ignites the propane in the presence of atmospheric O2. Easy to operate, you simply screw a 16.4-ounce propane cylinder on the back, turn the knob to "on" for a few seconds, and hit the ignition switch. The portable heater moves the heat efficiently with a fan, powered by two D batteries (not included), for better circulation. The Coleman ProCat operates for up to eight hours on 16.4-ounce Coleman propane cylinder.

About Coleman
The Coleman Company has been creating and innovating products for recreational outdoor use since W.C. Coleman started selling gasoline-powered lanterns in 1900. Inventor of the hugely popular fold-up camp stove, Coleman developed a plastic liner for his galvanized steel coolers in 1957--the birth of the modern cooler--and the company has been improving their utility and design ever since. The array of products that bear the Coleman name now includes just about everything you might need to work or play outdoors, from tents and sleeping bags to boats, backpacks, and furniture.

Customer Review: Good Heater...
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

This heater was a little bigger in person than I thought it was going to be, but is still fine for my needs. Not recommended for a hiking trip... I used this in an 18' X 10' 9 person tent in 30-40 degree weather and was pleased with it's performance. It will run several hours on one 16oz propane tank. The battery powered fan seems to require batteries more often than the propane tank needs to be replaced, but the heater still operates even without batteries. This heater creates an unpleasant odor that bothered my wife a little bit, but did not bother me at all. I'd much rather be warm and put up with a little smell than be freezing and miserable in my tent! I'd say that this heater was able to keep the inside of my 180 sq ft tent about 25 degrees warmer than it would have been without it. I figure it would be much more efficient in a smaller tent. A must have for tent camping in cold weather!!!

Customer Review: Warm Camp
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I am a new camper and I fall in love with camping since my first camp in May this year. The only problem is that it's always cold during the night in Northern California. I tried to get a top of the line sleeping bag with temperature at 15F and it didn't work. Even it's over 100 during the day, it's still chilly during the night.

Finally, I got this ProCat. I doubted whether it will work or not. At the first night using it, I was so happy about it. It's a must have if you want to keep your tent warm at nights. We have a HUGE tent and it make us so comfortable. Finally, I can sleep well.

The only thing you have to keep in mind is that you have to turn it on OUTSIDE the tent. I tried to keep it at least a feet away from any thing. It may be a problem for who has a small tent.

Overall, it is great! All my families love it!

Customer Review: Most excellent tent heater
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I have used this tent heater for two seasons, now. Marvelous. I am a human icicle and even with a warm sleeping bag, I need additional heat if the temp drops into the 50's. I leave this heater on all night--really. The carbon-mono detector has never beeped!
One tent is nearly all screens; even with the rain fly in place, I've had no problems with carbon-mono. The four-season tent is almost too warm in the late fall; yet, no carbon-mono problems all night long!
Yes, some flames do jump when first ignited. I will use one propane tank after another--no problems what-so-ever. The D-cell batts for the fan run amazingly long for me.
One downside is its size and another is no temp control. Yet, that's a small inconvenience for such comfort--especially for we freezie-cats!

Customer Review: good little heater
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I;ve owned this little heater for almost 2 years. Mainly use it in a small fiberglass travel trailer (18 footer similar to Scamp). Have used it several times in the mountains at 6,000 to 9,000 ft. with temps dipping to upper 20's. It really takes the chill off. Makes the little trailer seem almost warm though its really only in the lower 50's after running for some time. But heck, that beats a cold 28 degrees. The bottles last about like everyone says. I don't sleep through the night with it running but do turn it on a little while before getting up. Have also used it in a little workshop which was way bigger then my trailer. Did not do much good but it tried. Have probably ran it over 100 hrs with no problems. I like it and would recommend it.

Customer Review: Exactly as Promised !!!!
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

The Coleman ProCat is for real, and delivers as promised. It lasted 7 hrs. on a tank of fuel ... OK so it wasn't 8 hrs. but it kept me warm in a full size truck tent in 32 degree temps. overnight with no funny smell's. Some tips... run it for at least an hour to break it in with the fan running at least half that time. This will eleviate any odor problems. Second, enjoy it .... don't expect it to keep a full size tent or cabin warm in 20-30 degree weather. It is only adequate for a 2-3 person tent and only in 35-40 degree temps. For a truck tent or small 100 sq. ft. structure it's perfect and should suit most everyone's need unless your in Alaska or Siberia .... then all bets are off....
