I would highly recommend this extendable post to use inside your soft golf bag cover to protect club heads from impact on the top. This really adds to my confidence checking clubs on the airplane because I have seen baggage handlers drop golf bags on their tops and use them to bridge across gaps stacking more bags on top. The interior post will help protect from both of these abuses.
This one works great, there's three telescoping sections, allowing for easy adjustment to a wide range of lengths by pushing in the spring-loaded buttons and sliding the tubes up and down. It's plenty sturdy. The stiff rubber 'mushroom cap' on top arches over your driver and woods.
If you're looking for that little extra security with a soft-sided cover, look no further.

This generally happens when the bag is dropped directly on the club heads from a height of six feet or more. The Stiff ArmŽ is an adjustable crutch that is designed to prevent this from happening.
