Description of Cho-Pat Dual Action Knee Strap - Black Medium 14-16"
Cho-Pat's newly patented Dual Action Knee Strap provides an extra dimension of relief for painful and weakened knees. The strap applies pressure upon the patellar tendon below the kneecap to stabilize and tighten up the kneecap mechanism, which improves patellar tracking and elevation and reduces patellar subluxation. It adds further strengthening to the kneecap mechanism by applying pressure on the tendon above the kneecap as well. This tends to reduce the forces of the quadriceps on the patella tendon and erosion of the undersurface of the kneecap due to a possible misalignment of the quadriceps (Q angle). The device's design and construction apply constant dynamic forces to the surrounding areas of the knee reducing the likelihood of overuse syndromes. I'm a 43 year old runner (well, runner wannabe) who gave up running about 6 years ago due to recurring Runner's Knee (PFPS). I started running again this year and within 1 month, the painful symptoms returned. How painful? Well, my kneecaps would 'pop' out of place -- not fun.
So, I decided to buy the Cho-Pat Dual Action strap in June 2008 because I had some success in the past with the single, below-the-knee Cho-Pat strap.
For the last 2 months, I've been using the dual action strap and I have had zero pain or symptoms. I'm now running 5 miles a day pain-free and I'm thrilled that I may actually be able to run in the Disney Half-Marathon in January.
I'm not sure exactly how it works but I can't argue with the results.
Some specific comments:
-- be precise with your measurements; my knee diameter is 15" and the medium fits perfect.
-- it is a little bulky and some adjustment time is needed. Please note that it will not fit well under most pants (which I like to do because my knee problems occurred after exercising, not during my workouts).
-- it may slip while exercising due to sweat or repetitive movement, so you may need to experiment with the tightness. I have been able to run for 5 miles without it moving, so it is possible -- but it may take some time to find that right amount of tightness.

My knee swelled up and hurt to the point I was going to have to stop my nightly power walks. X-rays were negative. The doctor prescribed one of those large braces that didn't help at all. The little Cho-Pat gave instant relief and I was able to continue my walks. If nothing else has helped for you try this one. I bought mine after reading a large number of reviews that said the same thing.
If you are on the cusp buy the smaller one. It stretches over time. It has good adjustment, but if you run yourself out of space to attach the Velcro it wouldn't be effective anymore. Mine had to be quite tight to be effective.
I've taken glucosamine and chondroitin for many years. A friend picked up three bottles for me at Sams that turned out to just have glucosamine. I didn't associate the swelling and pain with the change until I switched back and it got better.
But the Cho-Pat was a Godsend in the interim.

I feel like I rate most things I buy off Amazon 4 or 5 stars - but that is only because I do my homework first and don't end up disapointed.
Originally I purchased a normal patellar stap which only worked ok and kept slipping away from the patellar tendon. I also purchased a standard compression brace and didn't get the support I was looking for. This was all due to me not doing my research.
After researching for better knee support I can across this gem. All I can say is that this product works! My knees feel 10 times better when wearing this brace while being active as compared with no support or the other two supports.
I have owned this product for over a year and it has held up perfectly. The neoprene is thick and doesn't stretch and it fits like the day I purchased it. There are similar products on the market, but after seeing how well the Cho-Pat works, I wouldn't test another.

I've had bad knees for a long time and have experienced times when getting around was nearly impossible. During one of these episodes is when I discovered this product. I couldn't wait for it to arrive. When it did, I put it on and I experienced instant pain relief. Moreover, I was able to walk without pain and revert to my normal activities within a few days of wearing this and doing some knee exercises.
I just ordered my second one in case I ever want to wear one on both knees or if I need a spare.
I've tried many different braces and supports and I can tell you that in my opinion this is the absolute best. I often wear it when I'm working out just to make sure my knee stays in place. I highly recommend this.

My son had serious knee pain for over a year from basketball. He used single bands below the knee, and they provided some relief. However, they would end up sliding down...even at the tightest setting. Any tighter and they would have cut off circulation. These new dual bands are the answer! They helped relieve the pain by taking stress off the tendon on the top AND bottom of the knee cap. They helped support the entire knee joint...and best of all, they stayed in place!
