This sharpener sharpens even the dullest knives I've NEVER been able to sharpen. My 20 odd year old Chefs Choice sharpener gave up the ghost so I went with the same brand since it will most likely out last ME! Great product. I will say that the 'steel' or middle part of the sharpener most likely won't be used much as I use my hand steel before using any knives. To have it just sit on a counter taking up space won't happen. That's why I chose 4 instead of 5 stars.
