I got interested in a distrbution post after my local outdoors store stoping taking back the little 16oz cans of camp propane. I purchased this after looking on line and it store at a number of different designs. All the other brands attached directly to the tanks valve, and despite legs for stability would have put some pressure on the valve. For safety and stability I prefered this Century model, where the post clamps securely to the tank collar and then connects via hose. Older century gear was made in the US, and I was hopping this would be, but alas the package say "Made in China to exacting of Century Tool and Mfg. stanards"
Overall the post feel heavy and well built. all the connections fit securely. I didn't do a side by side comparison, but it seemed like by two burner stove hooked up to this put out just a little bit less heat than when hooked up to a new disposable canister. Still puts out plenty to cook on, and there is no noticble loss of power when running both a lantern and stove.
With the cost of bulk propane so much lower than the little canisters, I expect this will pay for itself in about 10 short weekend camping trips. With the added convenience of not running out of gas in the middle of cooking and not having to dispose to canisters, this was a great purchase.
Customer Review: Great Camping Accessory Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
My fishing buddies showed me their solution to buying dozens of the small portable propane bottles at "3 for $15.00". Their solution was a pipe like attachment which screwed onto the valve of a large (20lb and up) propane tank. From it they ran their stove and lantern. It had a flaw, because it easily rotated so that it was no longer perpendicular and could start a fire with the lantern. This one attached to the collar of the propane tank. NO danger of rotating. The connections are good - great actually, considering where it was made (China). All it needed was to purchase a connecting hose - around 25.00 and I was good to go. Just make sure you check the connections for leaks using a soapy water solution as a safety precaution every time you use it. I figure it will pay for itself on my first fishing trip to the interior of BC in June. I highly recommend this product.
Customer Review: Best Value Tree Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
This distribution tree is the best I could find after looking all over the web and in local stores. It makes a FIRM connection to the tank, not relying upon the threaded gas tank connector to help hold the tree in place. And the two piece break down is really handy, both for storage and if you don't need all the height. I have used it and it is really stable.
To help with tank stability, I recommend getting a 'Tank Stand' or base, a plastic ring that the 20# tank slips firmly into. Got mine at local UHaul for $6.95, cheaper than or same as any prices on web. Camping World has them for a couple bucks more + shipping. But the stability is great!
Customer Review: Nice camping accessory. Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I use this tree on camp outs. A coleman lantern screws on the top, and the bottom of the tree clamps easily onto the propane tank. I attached two hoses: One to a large turkey fryer burner (for heating water and kicking off a charcoal chimney), and the other to a COleman stove. Good, secure connection at the tree. DO note that you will need to buy the hoses, and they can be rather pricey, so the tree is just part of the expense. Solid construction, packs away easily, no leaks.
Customer Review: Finally a design that makes sense Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I tried a couple other posts and they all seemed to leak at least a little because the poll attached directly to the nozzle making it hard to get a good seal. But this bad boy mounts to the nozzle protector or a nearby mount and has a short hose to attach to the nozzle making a very tight seal.
I highly recommend this version. Don't be fooled by fancier brand names like I did.
