Bisphenol-A is an ingredient used to make polycarbonate. In recent months, there has been increasing consumer demand for a bottle that is not made with Bisphenol-A (BPA), and CamelBak is proud to introduce BPA-free bottles with the same great properties customers have come to expect from polycarbonate: vibrant color, clarity, durability, dishwasher-safe, and with no residual taste. As of the end of April 2008, the entire CamelBak bottle line will be available in BPA-Free materials in North America.
What are phthalates?
Phthalates (pronounced thal-ates) are a component added to some plastics to make them soft and pliable. None of CamelBak's bottles have ever contained phthalates.
What is the BPA-free Better Bottle made from?
The CamelBak Better Bottle line is made from a new copolyester polymer called Tritan, made by Eastman. It offers the same great qualities that we have come to expect from polycarbonate bottles and is 100 percent BPA-Free. The Big Bite Valve is made of medical-grade silicone for long life and taste-free performance.

I had issues keeping glasses by my bed as I would often... thrash in my sleep, so I would end up breaking quite a few until I got this awesome bottle. I love everything about it, its portability, the no-spill and the lack of shattered glass. I'm personally used to tipping cups/bottles to get to my drinks so I actually took the straw out which makes cleaning a cinch, and it works just fine without it. I've dropped this bottle several times and I haven't broken a single one.
One other thing I noticed was other people were having mildew problems?? I don't know what on earth you guys are doing, but I left my bottle at a relatives for an entire month and when I got back there was liquid still in the bite valve and not even a bit of mildew was in there. I do rinse it out every time I wash it and I'm surprised anyone would be able to manage to cultivate life in their bite valve the way people have been.

I bought a number of the 1 liter bottles because I am working on increasing water intake and always keeping a bottle around me (at work, in the car, at home). The bottle is well priced, well thought out for ergonomics, and feels solid. Everything seems to be well thought out... the lid is made of a plastic that has some kind of texture that makes it perfect to grip and unscrew. The nipple was a little different to use at first but I got over it. Love the way it folds down to ensure no leaking (I've seen other bottles do this by pinching a straw, this bottle does the cutoff with a mechanical joint, much better approach).
My only concern (and I've seen others complain about it) is there is no way I am aware of to easily clean the lid (especially inside the mouth piece). If anyone has suggestions, please enlighten me.
Overall... love the bottle.

I purchased the 1 Liter (black) water bottle recently. It is the best water bottle I have ever had. I had come from using your run of the mill Nalgene bottle which I was disatisfied with because I always spilled water on me and it wasn't BPA free. I decided to try something different and after scouring Amazon I picked this one and I couldn't be more pleased. The person(s) who designed this are geniuses. I love not having to tip the water bottle up to drink out of it. All I have to do is flip the valve up and sip. The straw and bite valve is the best feature and I don't feel like a baby drinking out of a sippy cup. It makes it easy to drink more water...I had drank a whole liter before I even knew it! This is a very high quality water bottle for an exceptional price, and every morning I can't wait to start drinking water from it! I LOVE the CamelBak! This is my 2nd one. I bought the largest one as my first one and a dark color and used it for my green juices to the point where I could not get the smell and taste out of it no matter how I washed it so remember to have a dedicated CamlBak just for your water. This one is the 0.75L one and is a light color so I can see the water. The Orange is a lovely color. I take this everywhere from cycling to yoga to driving around to bed with me. You can drink from the Big Bite Valve without spilling water anywhere so it's lovely to drink in bed. Thanks to the CamelBak, I drink more water, measure my water, find drinking water exciting and absolutely love having this reliable form of water bottle so I never ever use water bottles again which is much better overall. I highly recommend this product to anyone and especially if you are an athlete !!Customer Review: love this bottle!

this is a great water bottle with one small flaw. i drink a LOT of water, and had been buying it bottled. finally the cost (both financial and ecological) caught up with me and i switched to a Brita pitcher and camelbak bottles.
surprisingly, the water tastes even better to me. i can keep the bottles in the fridge so my water is always nice and chilled. the bottle is super easy to fill because of the wide mouth. and i love the colors!
the only problem for me was adjusting to the bite valve. i'm laughing at myself now, 'cause what seemed like an annoyance at first now feels natural and easy. i wish the straw were longer so i could get the last few sips, but when i get down to the bottom i just take the lid off and drink like from a cup.
overall, i highly recommend this product and will be buying more of them.
