What is BPA?
Bisphenol-A is an ingredient used to make polycarbonate. In recent months, there has been increasing consumer demand for a bottle that is not made with Bisphenol-A (BPA), and CamelBak is proud to introduce BPA-free bottles with the same great properties customers have come to expect from polycarbonate: vibrant color, clarity, durability, dishwasher-safe, and with no residual taste. As of the end of April 2008, the entire CamelBak bottle line will be available in BPA-Free materials in North America.

What are phthalates?
Phthalates (pronounced thal-ates) are a component added to some plastics to make them soft and pliable. None of CamelBak's bottles have ever contained phthalates.

What is the BPA-free Better Bottle made from?
The CamelBak Better Bottle line is made from a new copolyester polymer called Tritan, made by Eastman. It offers the same great qualities that we have come to expect from polycarbonate bottles and is 100 percent BPA-Free. The Big Bite Valve is made of medical-grade silicone for long life and taste-free performance.

About CamelBak
CamelBak is the originator and world leader in hands-free hydration systems. The first CamelBak products proved to be very popular among mountain bikers and motocross riders, because it allowed them to drink without taking their hands off of the handlebars in technical terrain. The product began to cross over into other sports when scientific studies showed athletes drank more fluids and performed better when they wore a CamelBak. Since then, athletes from an ever-growing list of sports and activities use CamelBak hydration systems for their convenience and performance benefits.

In addition to cycling, CamelBak has Hands-Free Hydration systems for hiking, running, snowboarding and skiing. CamelBak?s state-of-the-art packs and hydration systems have benefited athletes, outdoorsmen, and soldiers around the world. While CamelBak has grown tremendously since the early days, one thing hasn't changed: CamelBak still believes in the performance advantage that proper hydration delivers for just about any activity. The privately-held company is headquartered in Petaluma, California.

Sports reviews of CamelBak BPA-Free Better Bottle with Bite Valve

Customer Review: Makes me want to drink more water!
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I have had this bottle for several months. I hated buying bottled water, so I got a filter water pitcher and this bottle. I have recommended it to everyone I know. It absolutely doesn't leak, water stays surprisingly cool in it and the wide mouth is easy to fill (even fits under the ice dispenser in a fountain soda machine). At first I thought the bite straw thing was weird, but I have come to really like it. The bottle is pretty scuffed up and battle-worn, but it's really sturdy and still looks nice. I've taken it backpacking and was very pleased with it, the loop works great for attaching it to a pack.
I drink a lot more water now that I have this than I ever did when I was buying bottled water (it's easier to leave half full bottles of water in the car). People have said that the straw doesn't reach the bottom, but I've never really noticed. When I start sucking air, I know I need to re-fill. It makes it very easy for me to be aware of how much water I'm drinking every day (2L - 3L/day Hooray for healthy kidneys!)

Customer Review: Use it at work all the time. Love it. Yes it's better than a paper cup.
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

They thought of just about everything when they made this waterbottle. I have one at work and one in my gym bag. It's easy to fill, easy to carry, sturdy, easy to clean, the water never tastes funky...everything I wanted. I've had the one at work for 3 years and I use it constantly. I use the bite-valve and in three years of daily use it still works like the day I bought it. Just a really well thought out item.

The ONLY problem I have with it is when I fill it with really cold water or ice water and leave it without drinking from it with the valve up. Since liquid expands as it warms it creates pressure inside and pushes out the straw and leaks a bit out the bite valve. If you tip it to take a drink from it, it'll dribble down your chin. When I say a bit, I mean, maybe a teaspoon. To prevent this close the valve (put the blue bite valve down), don't leave it for long periods without drinking from it, or just shake the excess off...it's just water

Customer Review: Love These Bottles . . .
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I have several of the CamelBak Better Bottles over the course of about 3 to 4 years. I had 4, then started replacing with the BPA free. The ones I had prior lasted for quite some time with very heavy use. I use them all the time, from work, to the gym, in the car and hiking. I even put iced tea in them during summertime. After about 18 to 24 months of heavy use, some of mine started to leak when tipped sideways or upside down . . . not a huge issue, I would expect some sort of breakdown after that period of time.

Pros . . .
Easy to carry
Easy to fill
Long lasting
Easy to clean

Cons . . .
Can get moldy/mildew (my advice, if you aren't going to use it for about 24 hrs, take off the top and the bite valve, I lay the bite valve in the cap at the top so I don't lose it and just leave the top unscrewed)
Can get leaky over time

All said and done . . . I would highly recommend!!

Customer Review: Best water bottle yet and a few suggestions.
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

This is the best water bottle I have ever used.
It is built more towards runners and bikers. So they don't have to flip the bottle up and not be able to see what's in front of them. That being said, it works great on a treadmill too. It helps you avoid the disorientation associated with tilting your head all the way back for a drink.
You should probably replace the bite valve every 4 months or so as it gets grimy in that enclosed space. Eventually it loses it's "leak proofiness" too. Amazon sells the kit that includes a bite valve and two straws that you can cut to size to fit any of the bottles.
Also, Camelbak only makes the insulated carrier sleeve for the .75L bottle. If you want the bigger bottle like I did I can recommend the Built in NY 32oz tote. It fits well and keeps your water cold for quite some time. It's available from Amazon so it's eligible for Prime. Search for "Built NY 32oz"

Customer Review: Goes everywhere I go
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

This bottle is just amazing, I love that it is reusable without have to worry about any of those chemical risks from plastic bottles. The design is very simple but amazing at the same time. I love the drinking spout only cause it won't spill or leak which is very nice. You really don't have to try hard to get your water or whatever you put in, so don't be worried if you think you are going to have to suck and suck and nothing will come out, trust me it comes right out without any try. Very durable, I have dropped mine so many times and all it has are minor scratches that I buffed out so it still looks new. It is an amazing bottle and everyone should have one of these to save on using plastic bottles and polluting. Love the hook for when you are hiking or any outdoor sport, just use though mountain clips and hook it to your belt, backpack, or really anywhere easy for you to access. Buy one now, you will not regret it.
