In recent months, there has been increasing consumer demand for a bottle that is not made with Bisphenol-A (BPA), and CamelBak is proud to introduce BPA-free bottles with the same great properties customers have come to expect from polycarbonate: vibrant color, clarity, durability, dishwasher-safe, and with no residual taste. As of the end of April 2008, the entire CamelBak bottle line will be available in BPA-Free materials in North America. What are phthalates? Phthalates (pronounced thal-ates) are a component added to some plastics to make them soft and pliable. None of CamelBak's bottles have ever contained phthalates. What is the BPA-free Better Bottle made from? The CamelBak Better Bottle line is made from a new copolyester polymer called Tritan, made by Eastman. It offers the same great qualities that we have come to expect from polycarbonate bottles and is 100 percent BPA-Free. The Big Bite Valve is made of medical-grade silicone for long life and taste-free performance. About CamelBak CamelBak is the originator and world leader in hands-free hydration systems. Sports reviews of CamelBak BPA-Free Better Bottle with Bite ValveCustomer Review: Best Water Bottle for the Gym Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I had a couple of these for nearly three years. The best part of this water bottle is that you don't have to tip your head back to get a drink of water. You just squeeze the bite valve between your teeth and sip. Totally awesome when you are on the elliptical or treadmill and tipping your head back might upset your balance.
Pros:
- wide mouth for ice cubes (bottle will sweat but you can get a Camelbak neoprene cozy to help with that (I got mine at REI)
- don't have to tilt head back to sip water. No push-pull valve like on normal cycling water bottles that might pinch your lip (I've done that)
- low maintenance - I really don't know how some of the low star reviews got mold to grow in their bottles. I take mine apart (including the bite valve) and put it in the dishwasher after every use. I let everything air dry before I put it in the cabinet. I've had my bottles for 3 years now and haven't had a problem.
Cons:
- Kind of big for a lot of car cup holders - fits my '09 Sienna fine, tipped over in my shallow Odyssey cup holders
- Might leak. I try to keep mine as upright as possible as I have experienced some leaking from my bottle.
Customer Review: Excellent Reusable Water Bottle!! Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
This BPA-free bottle has the design and sturdiness to endure countless trails, schools, and offices. The cap universally fits the .5L, .75L, and 1L bottles.
The top has a bite valve (i.e. water does not flow out of a straw freely, you must bite down to open a slit in the rubber valve) connected to a plastic straw inside the bottle. Once you bite down on the valve, you can simply drink! The bite valve flips down to a prone position behind the sturdy cap O-clip. This is great protection for the valve in case the bottle is dropped.
The O-clip can be easily attached to a carabiner on a belt or backpack.
The BPA-free bottle is strong enough to endure drops and dings. The cap creates a waterproof seal, so there no worry of your bottle leaking.
To constantly buy bottled water is expensive and wasteful to our environment. Tap water tastes just the same as bottled water (Dasani is bottled NYC tap water...so NYC tap water is good enough to sell, apparently). So reusing a durable water bottle is a great start in helping out our environment...Plus, it saves you money!
I would definitely recommend this bottle to my friends.
Customer Review: CameBak water bottle Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
My family owns three of these bottles, and we love them. We got the first one when I started going to the gym, and all my friends had them, soI gave it a try and fell in love with it. I then noticed that some of my friends children were using them when we dropped them off for child care during our gym time. So I decided to let my daughter try it out, and at just over a year old she figuredit out in about 30 seconds. I find it funny that when she uses hers, she will only drink water out of it, which is a great way to keep her hydrated without sugar! Then my husband bought a mountain bike and rides around with his regular backpack style camelback, well he decided that he should have a regular bottle for a back up and started stealing my water bottle(!), after much discussion over the theft of my water bottle i finally got him to buy the bicycle version of the bottle, and again he loves his water bottle. We live in an area where mold grows on everything, but since I figured out that the spout does come off I have had no problem keeping the bottle mold free. I would recomend this bottle to all of my friends, especial the ones with kids, as every child I know that has one loves it
Customer Review: I have found the one I want. Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I am a water bottle fanatic, since I drink at least a few pints a day and have filtered water at home. I was using an aluminum bottle prior to this, but didn't like how the water sloshed out of it on the exercise machine or while driving. I decided to give the Camelbak bite valve a try based on the reviews, even though I was a little hesitant since I don't like sport top bottles because you can get blue in the face sucking them. Not the Camelbak. The valve is large enough to deliver a good flow of water and soft enough that you don't have to hurt your jaws biting down on it. Hey, dare I admit that it is rather like a baby bottle for adults??!! The design is quite ingenious, especially how the nozzle is flush with the holding ring while closed, and there's a little lever on the nozzle for opening so you don't have to touch the part you drink from, which is another thing I dislike about sport top bottles. One caveat is that it does not keep the water as cold as an aluminum or stainless steel bottle, which is why I'm buying the insulating sleeve. The price of both is equal to the price of a Sigg, so it's not really any more expensive.
Customer Review: I'm in love with a water bottle. Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
Besides that being ridiculously weird, it's true. I've always been a big water drinker and have always had various water bottles here and there. I work at home in front of a computer all day and I tell you it's really nice to just grab the bottle with one hand to use it. Plus the way it functions, you actually consume alot more than you would with a regular water bottle, I can't explain why exactly, something in how much you suck up at once. It does take some getting used to the first few times of biting while sucking (very odd concept, I know) but once you got it, it's not weird at all. I can knock it down (happens all the time in the car) and not really worry about spills. Although sometimes it does drip a bit, not sure where it's coming from. Could be user error. Overall this is the best water bottle I've ever come across. I'm on here buying a second one because I finally admitted to myself that I needed it, since it get's to where I don't wash the first one because I'm using it 24/7. (gross I know, but a testament to how much I love it, I guess) Two should help foster better hygiene :D
