Customer Review: Great Racket for a Spin Game
Sport shop rating: 4 Stars

We recently put in a ping pong table at work and competition has been surprisingly fierce. The rackets that came with the table were the cheapest possible slats of wood and were quickly getting torn up.

Checking through Butterfly's racket ratings for Spin, Control, and Speed, I chose thise racket for the type of game I wanted to play: Fast with some wierd bounces thrown in.

Right off the bat, everyone remarked upon how heavy this paddle is -- almost twice the weight of other Butterfly paddles that started showing up at the table. Most people were put off by the weight but I liked the heavy, solid feel plus going by the laws of physics, I knew the extra mass was imparting extra energy. Forehand spikes from this paddle really fly/explode across the table.

Both sides of this paddle had a layer of padding but unlike other paddles I've tried, both sides have an equal amount of padding -- it's nice and thick and with the extra tacky rubber, it's extremely easy to impart extra spin into every shot, even if you're trying not to. To not impart aforward spin on a forehand shot, you have to cut it with a backspin. This extra oopmh means the balls slap the table and take off at a flatter angle and if the opponent returns the shot, they tend to come back nice and high.

The extra-thick padding on both sides means that spiking the ball tends to be a lot less frequent and it becomes more of a game of shot placement and who can counteract the other person's spin better. In fact, with the proliferation of these nicer paddles at the table, the game is less about hitting the table and more about hitting the opponent's paddle with a wild whirl. There's a certain enjoyment in sending a seemingly straight shot across the net and watching the opponent try to send it back only to see the ball grab their tacky rubber and come off at an oblique angle. This paddle definitely builds a higher level of skill into all parties and can limit a power player from dominating through flat-out whacking the ball.

I do miss some of the spike volleys we'd have, though, and have been considering taking the padding off of one side of the paddle to have the option of just solid slams.

In my opinion:
PROS:
Nice weight.
An excellent high-level paddle with which you can build a repetoire of serves (I have about 12 different ones now)

CONS:
No bias -- both sides are the same

Customer Review: Great racket, takes some getting used to
Sport shop rating: 4 Stars

I have gotten back into the sport after an absence of 20+ years. I always used to use Butterfly rackets, the last one I made myself. I currently probably rate myself about 1600+ after playing against some similar players who have ratings. This racket is excellent for forehand loops and spins. It also provides good speed on smashes although not as fast the old Mark V I used to play with on my forehand, or maybe I'm just slower :). Can't remember the rubber I used for the backhand which was slower than the Mark V. This racket has the same Flextra rubber on both forehand and backhand so I had to adjust a bit. The backhand topspin took some getting used to. In fact I had to go back to a slower racket for a while to practice the stroke, but that maybe because I was out of practice. Surprisingly it is also good for defence with chops, standing back from the table, and close up using half volleys where an instinctive block is all you have time to muster.
Overall it is a good racket and will help me to get back into the game before I find something more to my style, but that will probably be a lot more expensive than this racket. The only downside as previous reviewers have mentioned, is it attracts dirt quickly therefore requiring cleaning after a few uses, and also the rubber chips easily at the edges if you catch it on the table.

Customer Review: Quite the Beast, but easily slain.
Sport shop rating: 4 Stars

I just got this paddle, and I find that it has immediately improved my game overall. I ordered this paddle in hopes that it would improve my game, especially my spin; to my satisfaction, it has greatly increased the amount of spin I put on the ball so that instead of just missing the edge of the table, I can pin the ball right on the edge. This paddle is, in my opinion, ideal for the player who spins the ball most of the time when he plays. In terms of control, I find this paddle very good as well; however, I can only use it for control and defense if I put some form of spin on the ball. For those who prefer to play defensively and just let the ball bounce of the paddle, this racket's power will send it flying so long as there is no spin on the ball. The only problem with this paddle, as everyone else has identified, is the extremely weak and fragile rubber. One accidental hit of the rim of the paddle on the table or any other hard surface, and this rubber will inevitably rip. So long as you keep care not to hit it against any surfaces, though, the rubber will be fine, and even upon ripping the edges, it has no effect on your game. Besides this one flaw, I love this paddle, and I would recommend it to anyone who primarily spins the ball.

Customer Review: Great, But can be hurtful
Sport shop rating: 4 Stars

This is a great paddle for some one who knows what they are doing. If you haven't developed your style yet and don't have the control for spin and power, this isn't the paddle for you. The smashes are fast and the spin is great, but I noticed that without spin it is very hard to keep it on the table because of the speed. It can be used defensively, which I am suprised at because it is an offensive paddle. This paddle is not for beginners, or even players who are just starting spin. Work on ball placement before getting this paddle or you won't be able to keep it on the table.

Customer Review: Terrific Racket, Good Price
Sport shop rating: 4 Stars

I received this racket yesterday in the mail, and I immediately fell in love with it. It's interesting that the first reviewer found this to be a lighter racket compared to the Carlos Chiu, for I found the Senshu to be heavier. In any event, I consider this racket to be the big brother to the Chiu. It's definitely for the offensive player, for it's wicked fast that produces killer slams. Getting use to it for defensive play will take some time, but once you do, you have one terrific racket and a very good price. Offensive players, give this racket a test run.
