I'm the typical kind of beginner that can beat most everyone in the rec rooms, but I get beat a lot when I go to a club where the guys are really good. So I've got a ways to go in terms of reaching an intermediate level. As I've gotten back into Table Tennis I've tried various Butterly paddles. Out of all the paddles I've tried I like the Seemiller the best, but it is too much for me right now (btw, the Seemiller has now been discontinued and not sure what the equivalent is) so I started trying out the Kyoshi I bought my son. It is probably the most lightweight paddle I've tried, and the handle feels really comfortable. It has just enough pop to hit some hard shots, but it is geared mostly for control, and this is what I need right now. I'm keeping more balls on the table with the Kyoshi, and my backhand is a lot better with it. I'm going to put the Seemiller up and work my way up to it.
If you're a beginner in terms of just picking up the game or you find yourself like me in the lower tiers at your local club then the Kyoshi is a great paddle while you're trying to get down all the basics. As you improve you'll want to graduate to something with more power for slams and better rubber for spins, but that's going to take you awhile, and the kyoshi will be a great paddle until you get there.
I ordered me a new kyoshi a few days ago so I wouldn't have to keep using my sons. I got it from a partner of Amazon called [...] for a very good price.

This paddle is perfect for a player looking to go from the "recreational" level to step their game up to the next level. It provides a TON of control and spin... so much so that I find myself not playing as I usually do... but instead having patience with the ball and apply TONS of spin... It's a great paddle and provides adequate spin.
Although speed is not the purpose of this paddle... I feel if it had a bit extra "oomph" to it, it would be much better! However, with the amount of control this paddle gives me, it allows for much better placement of my smashes/slams so winning the point is actually easier... You just don't get that "ooo I smashed it in their face and almost broke the ball!" feel...
Although some might not enjoy the paddle, changing my gameplay style to adjust to it has been a pleasure, and I really do enjoy the product! It is well crafted!
ALSO, if you have LARGE hands, do not purchase this paddle! The paddle's handle is pretty small in comparison to a Stiga paddle.. I'm not sure why this is... perhaps because it is meant to be played with the "Pen style" of grip?...
I'm glad my hands aren't overly large, or that would have been a problem!
Overall I definitely recommend the paddle if the price is right... I got it for $22 with free shipping!

Great control/spin. Lighter than average weight. Possibly as good as it gets at any price for the daily player.
I've never played competition, but play 300 days per year with friends, family and visitors. I purchase a new pair for myself and my wife about twice each year (for the last 8 years); never been disappointed by Butterfly products, but these are slightly better than the last Butterfly set we bought earlier in 2008.

This table tennis racket is the perfect one for beginners. I play in many tournaments around the US and I have turned my little brother into a pro as well by teaching him the basics with this good control paddle. It has the right control for begginers and a little bit of speed and spin for them to get the hang of. I'm a beginner to intermediate player and been playing with this paddle for about 4 months now. It performs well, though next time I'll get something with more spin. Good quality and value.
