About Butterfly

Hikosuke Tamasu founded Tamasu Co., Ltd. in the small town of Yanai City, Japan in 1950. This was the beginning of a company career which is almost unique in table tennis. A renowned international for Japan, Tamasu fulfilled his dream of a lifetime when he made his hobby his profession. At that time, he could hardly imagine that he would make Butterfly the leading brand worldwide. Creativity, durability, and a profound technical knowledge meant success. 0ver and over again he looked for new possibilities in order to optimize techniques by innovative playing material. Tamasu realized that each player is different and has strengths and weaknesses. By offering individual playing material Tamasu wanted to help players right from the beginning to emphasize their individuality. Since 1983 Butterfly has its own training and research center in Tokyo. Highly qualified scientists co-operate with world class players and coaches for the development of rubber and blade technology. Butterfly's rubbers and blades are used by more than half of the participants at World and European Championships.

Sports reviews of Butterfly Bucket of 3-Star 40mm Table Tennis Balls (72 Count)

Customer Review: Irregular and generally bad quality - not one 3-star ball in the bucket
Sport shop rating: 1 Stars

I had several issues with these balls and will be returning them immediately.

1. When I opened the bucket, several of the balls had clearly been used previously. They had scuff marks and were slightly off-white. One was cracked.

2. I checked each and every ball in the bucket. Many seemed thin or even "soft", on some I could feel the seem, on others I could see irregularities at the seem.

3. I've played ping pong nearly every day with coworkers for 3 years. We always use 3-star balls and have never had quality issues until we bought these. We "test drove" a couple of them, and they bounced poorly compared to other 3-star balls we have (think of an old tennis ball compared to a fresh one). They also didn't have a uniform bounce from one ball to the next. One was bad, but another was just horrible. There were a lot more errant shots than usual, and after a few games we knew these balls were garbage.

If you need to buy a bucket for an office tournament or a boyscout troupe then maybe these are a good deal, but any player with an ounce of skill will hate them. I don't know how they can call these 3-star balls.

Customer Review: Low quality, be aware!!
Sport shop rating: 1 Stars

Since you are looking at an item that contains 72 balls, I am going to assume you are a serious player who wants to improve your game and intend to use these balls for multi-ball drill or for tournament/league play. I would strongly advise you to stay away from this item. Here are the reasons why:

1. These are not ITTF approved as the original Butterfly balls are. The label says USATT approved, which does not translate to quality.
2. I found each ball are off different weights.
3. Many of them are so unbalanced because of the seam and uneven weight distribution of the two parts. If side spin is applied, the ball will display a vibrating motion as it would if one side is heavier than the other.

I seriously doubt that this is a genuine Butterfly product. My guess is that MK(Martin Kilpatrick) is branding these balls as butterfly and selling it for cheap price. I have been using butterfly balls for a long time and never ever I have seen such low quality.

Customer Review: where are my balls?
Sport shop rating: 1 Stars

I ordered these balls on April 1st and the delivery estimate was 2-4 weeks. I checked back in late April and the delivery date estimate had moved to May 1st-May 20th or so... it is now May 24th and the estimated delivery date is now June - July. I would have never ordered this product had I know this was going to happen. The ping-pong table is currently being used to fold clothes as I wait for my balls. I hate this seller. I did not receive any notification that they were put on back order.

Customer Review: These balls are very poor quality
Sport shop rating: 1 Stars

this package has inconsistent quality, several of the balls I used cracked within a 1-2 minutes of moderate playing, and some of them easily crush with light pressure. I have ordered balls of this type from butterfly online several times and none of them were like this. This is the first time I've ordered from this supplier and I am very disappointed. I don't think they are selling genuine items. Don't risk $$$ buying from here, your wasting your money!!!!

Customer Review: Do not buy this
Sport shop rating: 1 Stars

Terrible, aweful, unplayable quality. These balls are lucky to be 1 star balls. I doubt the authenticity of this 3 star Butterfly markings. These balls will last forever because I cannot play with them. So irregular in bouncing. I have played the sport for over 25 years. Please beware. Don't buy the balls from Amazon. Get them from your usual Table Tennis equipment stores.
