Description of Bushnell Medalist Laser Rangefinder

EVERY GOLFER WANTS SPIN, DISTANCE AND PINSEEKER. With its sleek horizontal profile the Medalist is about two things: Lower scores and PinSeeker technology. Quick and natural to the eye, the Medalist acquires flags tucked in the deepest corners of the green despite background clutter that befuddles lesser rangefinders. Wherever evil lurks anywhere on the course, the Medalist with PinSeeker provides you with the information you want, to make the shot you need.
Compact in size but loaded with powerful rangefinding features, the Bushnell Medalist sets a new standard in a complete rangefinder package. Like its predecessor--the PinSeeker 1500--the Medalist is equipped with PinSeeker technology to combine pinpoint accuracy and consistency enabling you to range up to 250 yards (±1 yard) to the flag without the use of reflectors.

Designed exclusively with the bottom of the cup in mind, Bushnell's Pinseeker mode allows easy acquisition of the flag without inadvertently capturing background target distances. When more than one object is acquired, the closer of the two objects is shown on the LCD screen.

Powered by a 9-volt battery, the lightweight Medalist boasts a 4x magnification and features a rubber armoring, making it easy to grip. It also comes with a premium carrying case. Weighing just 9 ounces, the Medalist measures 1.7 x 4.5 x 3.8 inches in size and is ready to be used right out-of-the-box, allowing it to be played at 100 percent of the courses around the world. The Medalist is legal for tournament play and for posting of scores for handicap purposes. Other features include distance readings in both yards and meters and standard SCAN mode.

Targeting Modes

  • SCAN: Allows you to pan across the landscape while viewing a continuously updated LCD display of the distances between you and the targets you scan.
  • Rain: Compensates for precipitation to guarantee an accurate distance measurement through rain or snow.
  • Reflector: Increases the maximum measurement range for most highly reflective objects.
  • Pinseeker

How a Laser Rangefinder Works
Bushnell's Yardage Pro rangefinders use an invisible, eye-safe Class 1 Laser beam (as classified by the FDA) which is "bounced" off distant objects with the press of a button. Then, the rangefinder's high-speed digital clock measures the time it took for a laser beam to reach a target and return to the unit. Next, using advanced digital electronics, the rangefinder instantly calculates the distance within ±1 yard and shows the range in either yards or meters on a through-the-lens LCD Display. The entire process is so fast that less than a second elapses between the time you press the button to generate a laser beam to the time the exact range to your target is displayed.

Customer Review: Bushnell Medalist Range Finder
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I just purchased the Bushnell Medalist range finder a week ago. I did this after researching most of the popular golf GPS products and the
golf range finders.

Specifically, the Bushnell Medalist range finder is a "WINNER". I
lowered my score right away. Not by hitting the ball better, but by avoiding the traps (I can measure where they are). I was aslo able to
pick the right club for the right distance.

I found the range finder to be very, very accurate. After a week
at my main course, and playing three other difficult golf courses,
I play with a new "Tiger" like confidence.

The summary follows:

Positive:

1) Accuracy
2) Small size ( you can mange with one hand, although you need two to
get a "steady" reading. The "Pinseeker" mode almost eliaintes this
issue though.
3) Cost (it is worth the value of $299)
4) Battery life (it has not blinked after a week of daily use) 9 volt
replaceable battery
5) Universal use (it works on ALL courses - no maps, PC, or SD memory
issues)
6) If you are in a scramble, guess who is the most popular player?

Negative:

1) The case is too flimsy. It loks good, but is not rugged enough.
Mine tore after 3 day. I bough a camera case for it that is much
more durable and is portable enght for both my portbale cart,a nd
a riding cart.

That's it. if you are on the limb about what to buy. Buy a range finder. You'll not regret it.

Customer Review: Medalist rangefinder = tap-in birdie
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I purchased the Bushnell Medalist Laser Rangefinder in January and have been waiting for the weather to warm up to finally use it. I've played three rounds with it so far and I can say that I am very satisfied with the product and have noticed an improvement in my golf game. It's compact and solid; I leave it in its case in the front pocket of my bag so it's easy to grab and I don't worry about it breaking, scratching, etc.

As far as use, it's simple, easy, and accurate. In a few instances where the green was crowded with trees, shrubs, and other background "noise" I had to shoot the target a few times before I felt I had an accurate number. This literally took less than five seconds and it's still much more efficient than walking off your yardage from markers, or guessing. When I used it at a new course I had never played before, it was super helpful and made the round more enjoyable, knowing how far I had to certain markers.

I had been debating between this product (for the price and reputation) and a GPS unit. I decided on the Bushnell Medalist because to me it was more accurate and reassuring to know that I could shoot different objects and get accurate distances. Plus, with a rangefinder you don't have to pay for course downloads.

Great product. I'd buy it again in a heartbeat.

Customer Review: Works like a charm!
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I was finally able to get out and field test my Bushnell Medalist Pinseeker while sneaking in 27 holes.

Long story short: It performed flawlessly.

Long story long...:

It instantly picked up all 18 weather beaten red winter flags from just about anywhere.

Example 1. I had 297 left into a par 5, it snagged the information instantaneously. I know my old 400 Bushnell was useless from that range.

Example 2. 189 yards left into a par 4, the red flag was limp and there was a hillside 28 yards behind the pin. Information was instantly "pinseeked".

Example 3. 179 yard par 3, lots of "clutter" and trees behind the stick. Shoot, zip, got the number.

Of course all of the par 3's and every approach flag was easily attainable. I also used the scan mode to shoot trap lips, dog legs, hazard boundaries and anything else I saw.

I don't know if it's been redesigned but, the battery door wasn't even a consideration. I had read some others had an issue with the door coming off. I may put a small strip of gorilla tape over it, just in case.

If you're on the fence about which Laser unit to buy, I absolutely recommend this one.

Customer Review: Much better than my golf GPS unit!
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I love this thing! It works just as advertised. The pinseeker mode is intuitive and accurate. It has definitely increased my confidence in club selection, even on a course I play nearly every day. Since I received my Bushnell Medalist my golf GPS unit has been gathering dust in the garage. (For reference, my index is 8.5 and I usually score in the mid to high 70's.)
The pinseeker mode is what really makes this rangefinder so useful. It has no problem at all picking out the flag from the background. On my course there is a large metal-sided maintenance building about 40 yards behind the 18th green, and when I range the flag for my approach, this metal building is nearly always directly behind the flag. Even with this worst-case scenario the Medalist has no problem giving me the correct yardage. (One caveat: you need to be able to see most of the flagstick. If there is a hill between you and the flag, and you can only see the top of the flag, then the Medalist has a little more trouble, probably due to the reflections being scattered by the crest of the intervening hill.)
Overall, I am completely satisfied with this rangefinder, and I highly recommend it!

Customer Review: Good Buy
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I had used Skycaddie for the last 3 years and had grown tired of having to pay the subscription fee every year, downloading courses, having to reset the satellites and guessing at actual pin locations. So I had my wife get me the Medalist for Christmas. The second hole I used it I got my first ever hole in one - not that I can credit the Medalist for that but I considered it a good omen. I find it easy to use and fast on setting the pin distance. The horizontal layout helps in keeping it steady. I wear glasses and wanted something that I could use with glasses - no problem on this one. I considered the Laser Link but unless you get the more expensive one you only get the pinspotter feature. The Medalist gives other distances, bunkers, trees, etc. as well and at a reasonable price. Some might think the 4 power magnification is not enough but it is for me - I don't need a pin distance of 300 yds. Unlike the Skycaddie you don't have to worry about recharging the battery and you can buy a lot of 9v batteries for what a Skycaddie battery cost. I am very pleased with the Medalist.
