The idea behind multiple sets of dumbbells in a single handle is not unique to Bowflex, but it is, by far, the best execution. The dumbbells are sturdy, very sinple to use, and are completely maintenance-free. They look as though they are commercial quality, and with a minimum of care, will last a lifetime.
The only (minor) drawback is that in order to acomodate all of the weight plates, the handles are 16" long, and this seems if using lighter weights. In planning to use 20 lbs or less, then consider the 220 Dumbbells, which are shorter.
Overall a great product that is simple to use and encourages me to use them regularly.

I've been working out at health clubs and gyms for 20 years. Recently I decided to get a treadmill and dumbell set and workout from home as those are the two pieces of equipment I use most. I'm 41 and am not looking to get huge, just stay in shape. I bought the Bowflex SelectTech 552 and stand and couldn't be happier. They are quality built and come with an excellent DVD outlining various lifts and the PROPER way to do them. I thought I new it all, but the DVD helps justify the cost of these dumbells (in my mind). These are the best dumbbells I've ever owned. Again like the other folks, they are a little bulky and the ends "hit at the top" of a "bench press" type exercise because the lenght of the dumbell but other than that I have no complaints. I even compared to the other "adjustible" dumbbell sets that were cheaper, they were even larger and harder to adjust. These fit into a small workout space and replace 25+ dumbbells. I use these everyday. Saves me a trip to the gym, parking, etc. I would suggest the rack that is optional, it makes it easier than lifting off of the floor. I have used other gym dumbbells and it's hectic having to put weights on them. But with the Bowflex Dumbbells all you have to do is click the selected weight you want to work out with and boom you are ready to work! I love it so much because I don't have to put a shelf full of weights that takes up alot of space. This totally outdoes that. But make sure you follow the DVD before starting anything. They give you really good tips on how to work with the weights. I totally recommend this to anyone planning to get in shape or is mantaining a ballanced workout. Have fun!Customer Review: Raving Fan

This piece of equipment rocks!!!. I have only had the dumbells for a couple of days but have worked out with them 5 times already. You can adjust the weights to so many different variations which gives you the ability to focus on a multitude of muscles. I have worked out for 20 years with freeweights so I am no newbie to bodybuilding. The euipment only takes short time to become accustomed to, but in a short period of tme you will be on your way to building a better body. Not to mention they also allowed me to get rid of my old rusty dumbells, a total of 8 in all!
