My husband and I bought these pre-owned a week ago from a used sporting goods store for under $300 with the stand. Such a bargain as compared to the tower and dumbbells from 5-40 pounds that was $300+tax. The total weight of that set was over 300 pounds so being able to have adjustable dumbbells that go up to a higher weight and overall weigh less then the tower set is great.
I agree with the other reviews about the bulkiness of the set, but I don't see it to be a big problem and my husband has not complained either. They are super easy to use and adjusting the weight is a cinch but you can't just throw them back on a tower like you do normal hex dumbbells and you can't drop them either. It is important to be a little more careful, but that's a minor problem when you consider all the pluses.
If we had bought the multiple sets of dumbbells in the 2.5 increments and the appropriate weight rack to store them, we would have spent MUCH more money and would be using much more space.

I got these just a week ago. The dumbells are well designed and constructed. The handles are firm. When lifted, the weight plates are tightly locked in place. Very space efficient and user friendly (the weight dial makes it really quick to change weights).
However there are 2 cons:
1. Due to its mechanic, the Selectech are significantly larger than normal dumbells. They might be difficult to manuver in some exercises. I advise trying them out at local stores before making your decisions.
2. The price. Although the materials used and the product itself are flawless, there's no way this thing costs $400. In the first week, everytime you stare at them sitting on your floor, you might feel stupid for spending $400 on a pair of dumbells. But as you use them more and more that thought goes away. Instead you will feel that you have made the right decision.
I also ordered the Bowflex 3.1 bench to work with these dumbells.

I've only had Select-Tech Dumbbells a week, so I can't comment on their longevity or how they hold up to repeated workouts, only my initial impressions.
So far, I am very pleased with how they feel when doing every type of dumbbell exercise. Due to the mechanism that holds the plates in place, using a lighter weight still requires the overall length of the dumbbell to be the same. Because of that, I was expecting an awkward feel, but that is not the case. My wife uses 5 - 12.5 pound settings and the extra length is a non-factor for her as well. We also have a small workout room, so the space saving benefit is a plus.
As advertised, just turn the dial and select your weight. It's that easy. I have found myself doing proper sets now, where before I didn't want to hassle with changing plates. It also speeds up the workout.
They are expensive, but worth the money if you plan on sticking to a routine.

Amazon.com had a lower price for the weight set. I noticed that another company's website had a "110% best online price guarantee." I called the other company, talked to a very helpful person who told me that I needed to FIRST purchase the dumbbells, then all I had to do was call them, show them the amazon.com website, and they'd refund me 110% of the difference. Well, I did that, and I've been on the phone with them for hours, trying to get them to honor their guarantee, but every customer rep gives me a DIFFERENT reason why it is not applicable. I have not been allowed to talk to a supervisor, and cancellations are not allowed (I have to receive the shipment, send them back, and pay for THEIR shipping and MY shipping. Shipping alone is a lot of money!). BOTTOM LINE: Be careful where you buy, I've bought from Amazon.com for years, and they are reliable. I'm one of those people that would love to be in shape if only I had the time to workout. I used to belong to a gym but it took too much time and I could never seem to fit it into my schedule.
That problem is gone forever......since I've purchased the SelectTech dumbbells and an exercise bench for my home, I've been working out like a madman and getting amazing results.
The selecttech's are fairly compact and of course offer a wide range of selectable weights to choose from. They feel solidly constructed though I do have my doubts about long term reliablity since the vast majority of the system is plastic....so far (2 months, 3 times per week) no issues.
Overall this is one of the best purchases I've ever made and their helping me get into shape like I've always wanted. GO BIG!
