I was considering getting one of the cheaper sets but got these Bowflex dumbbells during the Black Friday Sale at Amazon. They are far superior to any other weights I have tried out in the stores. I have read reviews of other weights saying that the weights would stick at first and then fall out. Not a problem with these dumbbells even on the first pulls. The dial to select the weight is so easy to use and not hard to turn. They seem very sturdy to me but I would not drop them to the floor and this is mentioned as something you should not do in the manual. I also recommend getting the stand for these weights which makes things so much easier and it looks great. Well worth the higher price and I look forward to using these weights for years to come.Customer Review: Best purchase I've made in a long time!

Got the adjustable dumbbells for my husband as a gift. He's been looking at adjustable weights for a year or so, but wouldn't break down and buy them since they're not cheap. I found these on Amazon, compared them to the prices on other sites, and with the free shipping, Amazon was the best choice. I also compared these to other brands, and these seem to be the highest quality out there. They arrived (in one box, which was inconvenient for me to move) right on time, and my husband was thrilled with them. The adjustment mechanism works perfectly and easily, and they came in their own little "containers" to keep them from making lines in the carpet. If you're thinking about buying adjustable dumbbells, you should DEFINITELY buy the Bowflex brand!Customer Review: Great weights

I spent a lot of time researching this product. The main complaint that came from reviews I read had to do
with the mechanism used to lock the plates in place once you had selected you weight and were doing reps.
Basically, previous models of the product used hard plastic locking mechanisms to keep the weights in place,
these were vulnerable to break and possibly cause injury.
The new model for the selecttech ('09 I think) got rid of this problem and used metal locking mechanisms to hold the weights in place. Still, the one caution I'll make is NOT to DROP THE WEIGHTS. They will probably break and need repair.
Good product though, I would recommend it to anyone not put off by the price.

I'm running through varieties of the P90X and Power 90 workout programs and got these to assist me in that regard. They do eliminate a whole lot of the clutter you'd normally have if you had multiple dumbbells. The only issue I'm running into is the length of the dumbbell. When doing curls with both, I have to cant them slightly outward to avoid clinking them into each other. No big deal, as one of the variations of the biceps curls uses this specific movement but that's my only ding on the dumbbells. Changing weight is easy and fairly quick. I'd read some reviews complaining about the possiblity of the thingamajig (official name) that holds the weight in place breaking but have yet to notice any issues there. Good stuff and the price keeps falling.Customer Review: Awesome!!!!!

I waited and waited and finally found this set at Amazon for the great price of [...]. I tried it at Dicks Sporting Goods prior to purchasing this set. I also purchased the stand, which is also well built and easy to assemble (15 minutes).
This is NOT cheap, but it is well made. It felt natural in my hands and I prefer it over the power blocks, which felt a little wierd. I do recommend to try it out at your local sporting goods store. I decided to not get the 1090, because it is a little too much. To me 52.5 lbs is plenty and both myself and my girlfriend can use it. The dials are smooth and very easy to use.
I hope Amazon will not increase the prices and so more people can afford this wonderful set of weights!
