I purhcased these for use along with P90X. They could not be more perfect. I love being able to quickly and easily change the weights of these and they allow me to do all of the P90X exercises that require weights/bands (aside from using bands for doing pullups). They are a bit bigger then I expected and I try not to bounce them off of each other like I would with the dumbells from the gym. And given their length it's hard to do certain movements (like hammer curls) because you can't get the squeeze at the top because the dumbell will hit your shoulder before full contraction.
While they are expensive, it's only a few months of gym membership for me and to be honest I will use them more as I can avoid actually having to go to the gym (especially in the winter). I am very happy with these, the only thing I wish is that I purchased them sooner as I have been eyeing them for quite a while! So the gym membership has been cancelled and I can't wait to play the next P90X video to use these.

I recently started working out with the Bowflex SelectTech 552 because I'm doing the Chalene Johnson Chalean Extreme (by Beach Body) and she uses them. That program is also amazing (but for I'll save it for another review!) The SelectTech's are amazing and provide a large range of weights, which is optimum for the workouts, and also getting more fit and toned all over. I have been looking for something like this for years instead of the bulky weights that you have screw on and off every time you want to switch to lower/higher weights, or having 5 lb, 10 lb, 12 lb, 15 lb etc. individual weights that take up a ton of room in my rinky dink small NYC apartment. Who has time to do that when the work out is 30-40 minutes and not much time between sets? I'm super happy with them and would recommend them to anyone who is doing weight training. My body has gotten leaner, and I'm getting compliments left and right!! I love them and highly recommend them (especially to women!).Customer Review: Great for P90X!!!

I ordered these dumbbells well into Phase III of P90X and I wish I would've done it sooner. They are perfect for the P90X program. If your thinking that 50lbs isn't enough weight for you, you're wrong (or you're a giant). I was able to adjust the weight on the dumbbells in seconds by rotating the selection dial, instead of removing collars and plates. Which usually required me to hit the pause button on the DVD (which I hated doing).
The only (sort of) negative that I've felt towards these dumbbells is that they are kinda long. Which makes the bent over concentration curls and some of the front curls and kickbacks a bit challenging. But by changing angles a bit, I was able to modify the movements with no problem.
The dumbbells are sturdy and I haven't worried at all putting the weights over my head.
Bottom line: Love em, wish I would've bought them sooner.

The Bowflex SelectTech 552 Dumbbells are not only an amazing fitness item that provide the consumer with quick, efficient and simple fitness optimization, but also provide him or her with top-class engineering. The innovation behind these weights speaks for itself. I am a user of P90X, and as far as function meeting functionality in a perfect balance then these weights are a must have. They are affordable, they look great, and they work incredibly easily since they take up, virtually, no space and are extremely easy to use. I highly recommend these to anyone who wants quick exchange rates between exercise sets and whom also wants top of the line equipment that just happens to also look great! The weights range from 5 lbs to 52.5 lbs and may be adjusted to numerous settings in between in 2.5 lbs increments. Extremely easy to use and such a great product. The quality of the weights is great and the handles are really comfortable. Instead of a rough texturized metal handle, it has a rubber handle that should prevent any calluses from forming. I've been using it for a while now and haven't had any problems with it. Really glad I got this model versus the more expensive model because I found it comfortable. Though a little long for me (I'm 4'11) I can only imagine that the other version (which is longer) would be difficult for me to handle. As a woman, the ease is unparallel and it is so easy to find the right weight to do your strength training. I know it's a significant amount of money but for people serious about weight/strength training, it is a great addition to your regimen. My husband and I work out together and both of us enjoy it immensely.
