Description of Bosu Balance Trainer Home Version

This version is not intended for commercial use. Product warranty is voided if used for commercial purposes. From the elite athlete to kids to weekend warriors trying to stay in shape, BOSUŽ Balance Trainer helps to strengthen and coordinate your body including the muscles that you don't see.
Appropriate for everyone from elite athletes to kids to weekend warriors trying to stay in shape, the Bosu balance trainer helps you strengthen and coordinate several major muscle groups, including the muscles you don't see. The Bosu targets your core muscles--the muscles around your abdominal and back area--while you perform a host of different workouts, from squats and bicep curls to lateral shoulder raises and hip extensions. As a result, you not only gain strength, trim, and tone, but also improve your balance and coordination along the way. In addition, Bosu training helps strengthen the mind, with thoughtful movement that requires the participant to not only be physically involved, but also "here and present" with the mind fully engaged. By combining physical and mental focus, Bosu training will boost your performance across a wide continuum of activities, including sports, recreation, and daily tasks.

The Bosu home trainer comes with a workout series on a single DVD to help get you fit, along with a foot pump and exercise manual. The DVD workout series starts with the Calorie Combustion Workout, which combines step routines with sport-specific moves to get your heart rate up and your muscles challenged. The Long & Lean Workout follows a different formula, with master trainer Chalene Johnson leading you through Pilates-inspired movements that emphasize total body toning, so you feel stronger, taller, and younger. Finally, the Absolutely Abs Workout concludes the Bosu package. In this final workout, master motivator Greg Cook unlocks the Bosu dynamics to maximize your range of motion and take your ab workouts to the next level.

Customer Review: Love it! Best core exerciser that I've ever used
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

Core workouts have always felt boring to me. I've never much enjoyed sit-ups or crunches or doing endless minutes of Planks. Last year I discovered the Bosu ball and have been liking my core exercises a lot more since. The concept is simple: balancing on the ball while doing other exercises like curls or dead lifts forces you to constantly adjust and simultaneously works your legs, back, and stomach even when doing an arm or shoulder workout. That is just one of the applications of the Bosu ball.

Another great technique is to use the flat surface as a platform for push ups, or as a modified roving plank exercise where you roll in the ball in a circle while keeping your lower body and abs stationary. This is a great way to tone the stomach and is far more engaging than sit-ups or generic stationary plank.

The third excellent use is as a balance/stability trainer. You can either balance on the flat side or do lunges unto the ball surface to train your feet and ankles. Since you can only lift what you can stabilize, these routines are a wonderful addition to a traditional weight training routine and will see your lifts increase rapidly as your ancillary muscles catch up to your primary movers.

The home version of the ball seems just as good as the professional versions we have at my health club. Both my wife and I use it regularly and we've never had a problem with it deflating or even losing air. This is a seriously great piece of fitness equipment as versatile as it is well made. I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to mix up their routine or for those wanting better stability and core strength.

Customer Review: Need to get back to steelhead fishing
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I just had my 2nd knee replacement a couple of months ago and have been having physical therapy to get back to a normal walking pattern. This PT has had me do all sorts of balance work including standing on a metal device that I must control with my legs to stand straight. Standing on the Bosu ball gives me an almost identical type of balance work out. For most of you, this may not be a big deal but I was given no balance work after my first knee replacement (different side) three years ago and when I walked afterward I wandered all over the place. I've seen the improvement from PT balancing and now that I've had the Bosu ball I've been using that to supplement my formal PT and I find it just great! At 77 my objective is to be able to get back to my favorite river in a pair of waders and stand in the water fishing for steelhead. Last time I tried that before the last surgery, I could only get in water up to my ankles because of the rocks and it was just too difficult to try. Even standing out of the water on the sloping, rocky, bank was difficult, but now that I know how to improve my balance I'll be using the Bosu ball long after my formal PT ends next week. If I do nothing more than the standing balancing and the step on top and over the Bosu ball, it will be well worth the purchase. I've seen a significant improvement in my walking from this type of work out already. I'll take it one thing at a time and of course if my balance improves, which I'm sure it will, I'll be doing other things too but if not - it's still a very worthwhile device.

Customer Review: Use it Everywhere, for Everything, to Get More Results Per Workout
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

Balance Disc and Bosu Balls are both essential tools for increasing proprioception, stability, and strength.

You can do push-ups, squats, lunges, and other bodyweight exercises on these equipments to increase the intensity and versatility of each workout. Try doing the exercises with just one hand or one leg for an even greater challenge.

I sit on my balance disc wherever I go: work, classes, meetings, movies, dates. These tools force you to have a great posture to stay balanced on them. You can slowly raise each leg up to get a nice core workout while you sit.

The balance disc is great since it is convenient to carry and inexpensive. The bosu ball is a worthy investment as well, but you should master the balance disc first.

If you don't feel the burn after 10 repetitions, you are doing the exercise wrong. In all exercises, it is the eccentric portion of the exercise that builds muscle. Do the exercise in a smooth, controlled fashion with a 3 concentric and 6 eccentric count. Squeeze at the peak of the motion to get that extra pump.

As in all exercises, make sure to keep your wrists straight and check your posture with these seven vital points: feet hips-width apart and pointed straight ahead; knees slightly bent; pelvis at perfect middle, as if you are sitting at a bar stool; stomach tight, but not flexed; chest straight and aligned on top of ribs; shoulders parallel to ribs; and neck straight on top of body.

Customer Review: Gym quality for versatile workouts
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I decided to buy the Bosu Balance Trainer after trying it in a gym. What I loved about it was that the same strength training exercises that could be done on the floor could also be made more challenging by using the Bosu Trainer. Because you are trying to maintain stability when using the Bosu you get a challenging core workout while doing exercises. This means that you are able to do a wide range of exercises, from easy to more challenging, all on one device. To me this made this one product so much better than the many exercise products that accommodate only a limited range of motion. Even without using the DVD there are an almost limitless array of exercises you can do on this device.
When I went to buy one for my home initially shocked at the price, when I took it out of the box it seemed worth it. What impressed me was the fact that it seemed extremely durable. I have owned it for six months and so far have been very impressed. I have been using it frequently to challenge myself when doing strength training exercises like bicep curls, lunges, etc., without having to go up in weight. Thankfully, I haven't had any of the issues that others have talked about. Because I have a small condo, I also appreciate that it does not take up much space. Overall I have been very impressed with this workout device and hope it will maintain its durability for years to come.

Customer Review: Best home equipment you can have!
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I have owned my BOSU now for nearly 3 years and wouldn't trade it! I've done the home workout videos, treadmill, weights and some rather silly gadgets and this is by far the best thing I own. Not only did it help shed off a lot of weight (47lbs now!) but helped with my balance which has always been poor (I'm only 34). When I dont' feel like working out, I turn on the TV, watch a favorite show and just do step up/downs. Next thing I know 20 minutes has gone by and I'm so in the mood now that I move on to other core strengtheners now that I'm done with cardio. Let me say, it is worth the money. When I'm not using it, my little boys (ages 2 and 4) are jumping around on it and developing their own sense of balance and body awareness. While there are times I won't use the BOSU for days or weeks, it is rare, this IS the only equipment I have NEVER gotten bored with and look forward to using. The only downside? Not enough videos aimed at BOSU users, but the few out there are pretty good. Make sure you dont over-inflate the ball; getting up on it SHOULD be difficult. Other than that, have fun!
