Sports reviews of Bike Peddler Take A Look Cycling Eyeglass Mirror (Original)Customer Review: I love this mirror Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I have had this mirror for a couple of months now and I am very impressed with it. I am a roadie and I spend several hours in the saddle each week.
I've looked at several mirrors over the past year, and tried one or two. But I usually ended up riding without a mirror since they were such a pain in the butt. They jiggled around too much to be useful and I was constantly fiddling and adjusting so I could see anything at all. If the mirror is plastic everything is blurry, if it is glass it weighs a ton and pulls your sunglasses down your nose.
But this mirror is about as good as I can imagine a bike mirror being. The acrylic mirror is both lightweight and optically accurate, and is plenty big enough for a wide field of view. If you position it just right, you can see everything behind you with a slight turn of your head.
The attachment mechanism is simple and holds tight. It takes about 30 seconds to move it to another pair of sunglasses and readjust the angles. The springy bits are covered with grippy plastic which keeps the mirror in place and provides less snag points to grab your helmet straps when you put your glasses on or off.
The s steel and brass frame and swivel system is infinitely adjustable, but provides enough resistance that it has never moved out of adjustment, even at high speeds on rough roads.
And, to top it all off, it is less expensive than most of the other mirrors I have looked at. It is a simple, well-thought design, without useless complexity or expense. Beautiful.
Customer Review: So far, so good Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I've always felt more comfortable having a rearview mirror while cycling. I like knowing what's behind me, whether it be another cyclist, an overtaking motorist, or a chasing dog. Some cyclists think it's geeky to use a rearview mirror - that's fine with me; call me geeky, but I prefer knowing what's coming up behind me.
With most of my cycling accessories, it has been trial and error, and it was no different when trying to find the right rearview mirror. I had tried one that glued to the helmet, but the glue softened if the helmet was left in a hot car. I tried two different brands of black plastic rearviews that clipped to my sunglasses, but the plastic always broke after extended (and sometimes not particularly extended) use. I tried one with a metal arm, but it was difficult to bend into just the right position, it wasn't long enough to give a good view, and it had a sharp point that scratched the arm of the sunglasses.
I think, per'aps, with this product, I might have found JUST the rearview mirror that I have been seeking. The arm of the rearview is long enough that I get a good visual perspective. It is easily adjustable. It doesn't scratch my sunglasses. And it doesn't appear to be easily breakable (at least not yet). I just wish someone else had spent all of the money I had spent on the others and had told me about this product sooner.
Customer Review: Forget the others, this is the mirror you want!! Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I bought several different types of mirrors when I began road cycling a couple years ago, but quickly abandonded them, as they were too much of a nuisance to deal with, and almost impossible to get any kind of usable view out of. Until a couple months ago, I wasn't using any mirror at all.
Based on others' recommendations, I decided to give this mirror a try, and I'm glad I did. I never cycle without it now. This mirror attaches securely to my glasses, and is adjustable along 3 pivot axes to obtain the perfect positioning. I must note that, unlike other mirrors I've tried, I'm able to obtain a pretty good view with this mirror just by getting it in the ballpark. Which means I can get a usable view very easily, right away. Being a little bit of a perfectionist though, with a little extra tweaking, I'm able to adjust it even more perfectly, to get a very clear view (unobstructed by my own head) of the entire road behind me - from one shoulder of the road to the other shoulder!
And no matter how bumpy the road, or how blasted strong the headwind I'm cycling into, the mirror doesn't go out of adjustment (unless I accidentally whack it with my hand while wiping my nose). And the image in the acrylic mirror looks as true as if you were looking into a glass mirror - without the weight or breakability of glass! This is an awesome mirror!
Customer Review: Nice eyeglass mirror Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I've used a number of these mirrors and they all die when you clip them taking off your helmet before you take off the mirror. If you are not wearing an eyeglass retaining strap this maneuver can take your glasses off with it!
Now having used helmet mirrors which also break or won't stick to the helmet. This eyeglass mirror is one of the best I've used so far. I like the Helmet mirror because when I take the helmet off, the mirror comes off as well. The dork factor drops by a factor of 10x for the ride up the elevator. But I've had it the helmet mirrors, I can't seem to find a decent one.
I have wire rim glasses and if I insert the mirror as it's shown in the photo it seems to work pretty well. There is always some movement with these things but the black rubber seems to grip the eyeglass bow (the part that goes to your ear) pretty well. The mirror is really really nice. The problem is that to see over my shoulder I should be either sitting taller in the saddle or have the mirror mounted higher. Still though a quick head movement to the left and I can see the lane behind me. So 5 stars with the following cavets..
#1 Wear an eyeglass strap
#2 take it off before you take off your helmet
Customer Review: Peace of mind on the road Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I'm new to biking, having only purchased my bike a month ago, and was apprehensive about riding on the roads in even moderate traffic. Sure I could hear cars coming up next to me as I tried to stay near the shoulder. But sometimes you just don't have a shoulder or, particularly in central New Jersey where I live, the volume of traffic is such that it helps to be aware of what is going on behind you. That's where this eyeglass mirror has made a huge difference for me. Without taking my eyes off of the road ahead of me, I can quickly glance to see what is coming up behind me. Not only has this helped to avoid possible dangerous situations, it has given me much more peace of mind heading out onto the roads. The mirror can be adjusted in any number of ways. In fact, I recommend experimenting with it before heading out onto a high-traffic road to make sure it's angled correctly. It's so light as to be imperceptible. Does it make you look a little like Lobot in Star Wars? Sure, but then again bike shorts aren't exactly flattering either. It's about safety and peace of mind, after all.
