Description of Bic Sports 6'7 Surfboard

The construction of the ACS line starts with an extremely durable polyethylene shell that is then filled with polyurethane foam. This is the same foam used in standard surfboard construction. To ensure that the finished surfboard is an exact reproduction of the original proven shape, the entire procedure takes place in a mould that maintains the shape of the board. The result is a virtually ding-proof surfboard that makes it easy for a wide range of people to experience the thrill of surfing.

Sports reviews of Bic Sports 6'7 Surfboard

Customer Review: Excellent beginner's board
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

The Bic 6'7" is an excellent beginner's board. I learned how to surf about a month and a half ago on an 8'6" used custom board. I ended up beating up the board pretty badly by pearling it and having it hit random things while I was trying to fit in my sedan. So, for about the three weeks I had it, I became much more adept at repairing dings on the board than actually riding it. I grew pretty frustrated by the unwieldiness of the large board as well as the high-maintenance (which I wasn't used to as a beginner), so I decided to get a Bic surfboard. Like what others have said, this board floats very well and is fairly wide and voluminous for a shortboard. Weak paddlers and heavier riders should benefit from the extra float. However, the board does not have so much float that you cannot duckdive. I am a relatively weak 5'11" 160lb person, but I have no trouble duckdiving the board. The width of the board also provides greater stability when trying to stand up, compared to a "typical" shortboard of the same length.

The greatest benefit of the Bic surfboards are that they are extremely durable. I have dropped the board onto a curb from a height of 5ft on its rail and there is a small indentation. No leaks or anything close to a break in the plastic. I have also surfed it onto some pretty sharp rocks without any cracks or leaks. There are only long, shallow surface scratches.

The only negative from the board is that it is somewhat slow and hard to turn, when compared to the few custom shortboards I've ridden. So, it seems somewhere between a mini-mal and a shortboard in terms of performance. However, that might have to do with my own poor surfing ability than the board itself.

Regardless, I plan to use this board forever--for slow breaking waves, for surfing treacherous conditions for the first time, and as a future teaching tool.

I have ridden, shaped, and owned many boards from 9 foot guns to 10 foot longboards and everything in between. I have owned two bic boards. the 6 10 and the 9 0. I would consider both of these boards excellent boards. bic has two styles of construction. half their boards are constructed with more performance in mind-lighter and more refined. the two boards i have are in this catagory. the 6 10 is a very versatal board. paddles well, is loose, lite, fast and durable. i would consider it an excellent travel board. i have ridden it from knee high to double overhead indonesia. the only complaint i have is that it doesn't handle too well in extremely steep bigger surf just like any wide tailed board with a lot of rail curve.
As for the longboard, It is probably one of my favorite boards and performs extremely well as a high performance longboard. it loves big playful surf and also performs well in smaller waves. it is not a cruiser longboard like their 10 0. both of these boards have refined rails, good bottom contours, are lightweight and extremely durable. My only complaint is that I buckled my longboard and they are hard to find in my area. One more complaint- i wish they made a gun for larger, hollow waves- i would buy one in a second. Body weight plays huge influnce on surfboard function. what performs well for one person could seem like a slug to someone lighter. and vise versa the same board in pumping conditions could perform even better for someone with more weight on them. I weight 170 and would recomend these to anyone 160 and higher. They would be good beginner and intermediate boards for lighter riders. just like any board, every board has it's function and these boards perform very well in a variety of conditions. I will always try and keep these boards in my quiver.

Customer Review: The Bic 7'3 to 6'7
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I am a kook. I will always be a kook. I own about 7 surfboards mostly second-hand. Two, an ancient 6'0 fiberglass homemade job with a hand-painted dolphin on the bottom (to scare away the sharks), and a 7'10 Becker(sarcastically "Dude, awesome Becker!") are in various states of delam-delapidation which are waiting for me to repair. "Ride me, Biaatch!" they seem to say as I skillfully pull my 7'3" Bic from betwixt their dusty vertical graveyard.
Look here now, it's a great board. Well, because they can take some abuse. Probably right up to being run over by a truck. There's the magic, right there. The fins are a different attachment set-up, meaning I haven't yet strolled into a surf shop to look for replacements, and you do have to endure the taunts of some of our local "pros" who are looking for some "clean" (i.e. uncluttered, sparse, etc.) line-ups to "carve" some "gnarley" (really, the eighties?) turns and "lacerate with extreme prejudice" the backside of
some "mossback" "tanning" in the impact zone.
My bro has a 10' that he never takes out but is eminently rideable. But enough about me.
These boards, as I will have you believe, are easier to ride than their fiberglass counterparts. A 7'3 Bic WILL! be easier to ride than it's cousin the 7'3 fragile (that's Italian) Stewart. That is, if you can ride at all. Believe it or not, if you're new to the sport don't feel ashamed to take it into the whitewater and surf the misty whiteness to get the feel of it. My surf tag was "Chef" because I was always master of the "soup". Obviously, don't take it out to the Hook or 1st. Peak Pleasure point on an overhead day.
Get out there and have fun with your bouyant, well-nigh indestructible hunk of plastic heaven!

Customer Review: Recently surfed chest-head high surf in Eleuthera on a Bic 7'-6"
Sport shop rating: 4 Stars

Hello All,

I just got back from a x-mas trip to Eleuthera in the Bahamas. The house we rented had two Bic 7'6" fun shapes available. I had never ridden a Bic before 12/26 but the waves were head high, wind was off-shore and I didn't care if anyone called me a kook for riding a Walmart special. I needed some waves! The board performed great for the wave at surfer's beach which is a long left reef and rock bottom break.

I am 5'10" and 165lbs and the length of the board worked well for the outside section which is bigger and slower than the inside which breaks 2x as fast as the water is shallower. It turned well enough for a few cutbacks on the outside section and few up the face floaters on the inside.

I imagine the 6'7" BIC would perform just as well if not better than the 7'6". I would reccomend this board for beginners to intermediates who want something that paddles well and catches a lot of waves.

In the retail surf shop business it must be remembered that a surfboard is considered a fashion accessory. The average customer is between 14 and 22 years old and has $200.00 of their parents money to spend. They don't spend their money on surfboards, but on clothes, sunglasses, and other surfing related items. Retailers rely on surfers buying the $100.00 pair of sunglasses with brand name recognition, rather than the $10.00 pair, to be cool and avoid being labled a kook. They rely on surfers buying into this idea. 99% of the adds in surf magazines are for name recognition for fashion.
Every surfer was a kook at one time. When do you stop being a kook? Is it when you learn to surf well, or when you get your $100.00 sunglasses and your custom shaped board?
If someone can buy a brand new molded surfboard for 1/2 the price of a hand made board, why not? There will always be shapers to make boards for the non-kooks. Go surfing on your Bic board, but watch out for snobs.
