Description of Bell Cocoon Rack Mounted Bicycle Child Carrier

Take along your child on a biking adventure using Bell's protective and comfortable rack-mounted child carrier. The Cocoon will carry your 40-pound-or-less child in safety, comfort and style, as it features a thick seat pad, high back for added protection, a five-point harness, molded spoke guard, and adjustable foot rests (which also allows the seat to grow with your child). Easy to attach to most 26- and 27-inch bikes (without rear suspension), this carrier can also be removed easily for solo rides. A rear reflector is included.

About Bell
More world champions have worn Bell Helmets than all other helmet brands combined. From Grand Prix racing through the Indy 500 to Olympic cycling, Bell helmets have played a vital role in protecting sportsmen and women for nearly 50 years. Bell began as a small auto parts store in a suburb of Los Angeles. Growing under the leadership of Roy Richter, Bell became a leader in safety equipment for auto racing, motorcycling, and then bicycling. His commitment to creating great product through a close connection with the sport, along with his trust of and care for the people who worked for him, turned Bell from a one-man operation into a multi-million dollar enterprise. His legacy lives on today in Bell's commitment to racing, quality and innovation.

Sports reviews of Bell Cocoon Rack Mounted Bicycle Child Carrier

Customer Review: My Girls Love It
Sport shop rating: 4 Stars

Assembly was straight forward. My advise for installation is to assembly the whole base unit first (which is what I did), but don't tighten any of the bolts yet. Then bolt it to the bike frame. Now tighten all the bolts, this will make it easier so you don't have to loosen the bolts to make adjustments so that the base unit will conform to your bike frame.

The ability to remove the carrier from the base unit is nice especially if you hang your bike like I do or for days that you don't ride your child around.

Both my 2 and 4 1/2 yr old loved it.

Customer Review: Pretty Good for the Money
Sport shop rating: 4 Stars

Installed the product last week and have taken bike rides withs my 17 month old (23 lbs) and 3 year old (31 lbs). Both liked it. Neither complained that it was uncomfortable. The seat does attach and detach very quickly. While I will agree that the higher parts of plastic are flimsy, I suspect it helps with the shock absorption. Have not read a review claiming the seat broke or snapped as some of the negative reviews seem to be concerned with.

Customer Review: Good for the money
Sport shop rating: 4 Stars

This is a good seat for the money...we have twins so we needed two seats. We got one as a hand me down, which was by a different company and much more expensive and bought this Bell seat for our second bike. The Bell seat was more complicated to install than the other seat, and not as many "bells and whisles" like shocks, etc. but I think it is just as good as far as safety. For a mid priced seat, I would recommend it to others.

Customer Review: Solid body, cumbersome mounting
Sport shop rating: 4 Stars

The chair comes with a heavy and cumbersome mount that must replace your back rack. Well, turns out, it does not fit a fairly regular mountain bike with hydroform alluminum alloy tubes - the brackets that are supposed to clamp around rear triangle legs are too small and narrow. They can only fit a steel or street bike, which are not as common today. Wish they'd come up with a seat that can mount onto a regular rear rack.
