Sports reviews of Bell Cocoon Rack Mounted Bicycle Child Carrier

Customer Review: Bell Cocoon Fits Electra Townie
Sport shop rating: 4 Stars

This seat will fit the Electra Townie. It took a little coaxing but I installed the seat in about an hour and it looks great on the bike. The bike was expensive and I didn't want to bugger the nice paint job up, but the protective plastic frame guards that are included seem to protect the paint. My local bike shops said that no seat would fit the Electra Townie, even seats costing more than twice the price of this one. I wasn't giving up until I had at least tried to install one myself and I'm glad I did. The plastic seat is a little flexible but the rack it's mounted on is very secure. The three bolts that secure the seat onto the rack seem sufficient. There is a teather strap for peace of mind. If your being told the only option for your expensive Townie is a trailer, this is your choice. Check out my customer photo.

Customer Review: I figured out how to mount it on my hybrid/wider frame!
Sport shop rating: 4 Stars

I read all the reviews and figured the price was good and we were specifically looking for a rear mounted seat for my bike, so we gave this one a try. After an inital VERY frustratiing try of getting it on my bike, we figured out that if you flipped the lower clamp pieces onto the outside of the mounting bar, it will fit some wider bikes, like mine. We tested it out and it's safe and works great. My daughter is 2 and loves riding in it! The only problem is that it puts her to sleep and then she can't really lean back b/c of her helmet, so her head flops around a little. Nothing a small pillow wedged in the safety bar won't fix! So far...a fun little seat at a good price!

Customer Review: Decent carrier, but not for short adults
Sport shop rating: 4 Stars

Hubby said this thing was a pain in the a-- to install. He installed it first on my bike but the seat needed more tire clearance than we thought and thus my seat had to go farther up, which was a big problem because I couldn't get up onto the seat. I'm 5'0" and moving my seat up about 5 inches was a no-go. So, he took it off my bike and put it onto his. Initially he had to get used to the off-balance feeling (our 22 month old is 30 lbs) but after that he enjoyed the ride we took. Baby boy enjoyed the ride and the belly bar is great for the kid to hold on to. Overall very pleased with the carrier, but wish it was easier to install/remove.

Customer Review: A bit of a manufacturing issue...
Sport shop rating: 4 Stars

I got the rack fully assembled, and attached to my bike, but encountered trouble getting the seat to attach to it. I found that one of the three bolts would not screw in. After some time of thinking I just was missing the hole, I examined the nut built into the rack, and found that it had no threads in it! Rather than disappoint my daughter, I found a skinnier bolt, the nut, and some washers, and secured the seat myself. I'm hoping that I can find a Customer Service line somewhere, as I don't want to have to take it back.
P.S. Once attached in its rigged up fashion, my daughter thoroughly enjoyed the ride!

Customer Review: Good seat
Sport shop rating: 4 Stars

After researching the right seat for the right price we ended up buying this Cocoon seat. Online it said "new" and after receiving it pieces were used and there was hardware missing which delayed our rides (a bit bummed about that) but once we got the bike up and running it worked really well. It is a bit complicated getting it on the bike and isn't a quick on/off if you were to move it to another bike (another bummer).

My 1 year old son who's about 31" tall and 25 lbs fits great in in and my feet don't hit the foot rests at all. I have a women's 26" bike and I'm 5'6"...so overall it's a good seat.
