Description of Bell Classic Bicycle Child Carrier

Much easier to install on a wider range of bikes!
Bring your child along while riding to the grocery store or park with the Bell Classic bicycle child carrier. Designed to fit most standard adult bicycle frames, the carrier is sturdy, safe, and comfortable for your kid. The Classic includes an adjustable harness that creates a snug fit, along with a front grab bar that acts as a handhold and seatbelt. The back pad is also washable--a must for most parents. Offering a capacity of 40 pounds, the carrier sits securely over your back wheel.

Customer Review: Inexpensive and Fun For The Boy.
Sport shop rating: 4 Stars

My wife and I like to do a little biking as a form of recreation and exercise and we wanted a way to take our 2-year-old boy along. The solution was a Bell Classic Child Carrier which bolts onto the back of the bike. It was a little difficult to find. It seems that stores are closing out on it and don't expect it to be restocked. In any case, we found one.

We have two bikes. My wife's is a trail bike with a double wheel suspension. The carrier was not designed for this type of bike. My bike was an old fashioned, balloon tired, one speed Schwinn Beach Cruiser. The carrier fit perfectly and took a little over an hour to install. There were no problems. Then we took the guy out for a ride. He loved it! A problem is that we live in a fairly hilly part of town and the one speed bike is marginal in the first place, but the added weight of the carrier and the 25-pound boy makes for some difficult riding. Keep this in mind if you have a single speed bike. Otherwise, it works fine on the flat and downhill is a breeze. In fact, you might find yourself wishing for a bit more braking power. I installed an additional front-wheel brake in addition to the standard coaster brake.

Customer Review: A great product for very little money...
Sport shop rating: 4 Stars

I purchased this child carrier seat for when we visit the grandparents. At home a have a trailer that both of our kids ride in. This little bike seat was perfect for the occastional use. Some of the 'shields' that are meant to protect the child from the wheel are a little flimsy, so I would not want to take them on and off on a regular basis. Once it's on the bike, it should probably stay there. But for our purposes where I didn't want to spend hundreds of dollars on a second bike trailer to be used for maybe a month out of the year, that was great bang for the buck. I had my 2 year old riding in the back and he was perfectly happy & safe.

Customer Review: Gets the job done

This is a very basic seat. You pay for what you get. The installation of the foot guards was tricky and they are flimsy. Otherwise, I installed two of these seats releatively quickly on both of our bikes. There is a 40 pound limit on these. So our three year old will max that out shortly so we didn't want to spend the money on fancier seats, but I think I would've bought ones that were a little nicer if I had physically seen them in person first. Nonetheless. They work fine and get the job done. If you are a safety-paranoid parent, then spend a little more on another seat. Our seats only get used while we are on vacation in Nantucket.

Customer Review: Works for me
Sport shop rating: 4 Stars

I found it self explanatory and easy to install. It does work with a quick release mountain bike seat, you just have to tighten it like you mean it. You can buy a bolt and some lock nuts at any home improvement store for really cheap if you need it tighter. The included bolt will only tighten so far because its not threaded the entire length.
The only gripe I have about this child carrier is that on our mountain bike, if you pedal with the tips of your feet your heel sometimes hits the footwell of the carrier. I plan to fix this with some custom hardware to mount the seat farther away from the bicycle seat post.

Customer Review: Have baby, will pedal!
Sport shop rating: 4 Stars

We really enjoy taking our daughter on bike rides and this seat has worked fine for us. Although we put it on a fairly large cruiser bike and had to make modifications to the installation process, it works fine. The cruiser has a pretty big seat and our daughter has learned to set her feet on the seat in order for us to pick her up without loosing her shoes in the process. This wouldn't be a problem if we were to remove the little hand rail, but I like that she has a safe place to put her hands back there. For the price you can't beat it!
