The Blackhawk 60mm spotting scope uses a multi-coated objective lens and rugged porro-prism design for bright, clear images. At 100 yards, I can clearly focus in on a target, even when I crank the magnification up to the maximum 60X. When I use the scope for wildlife spotting, the sweet spot seems to be about 30X magnification; 30X gives me an ideal combination of sharp images and a wide field of view, perfect for identifying Puffins and Pelicans along the coast.
I also like the compact size and light weight of the Blackhawk 60. At only 14 inches long and weighing less than two pounds, the Blackhawk 60 is light enough to use a photo tripod such as the SLIK U-9000 in the field. Like other entry level spotting scopes, the Barska Blackhawk 60 uses an Achromatic objective lens, which means that some false color or blue fringing is noticeable at high power.

I wanted to get a closer look at the birds in my area and planned to go to the beach more this year and look out across the ocean at the boats that passed. This scope is quite adequate for my needs, except for the tripod which is small and of no use to me. I attached the scope to my camera tripod. The tripods ability to rise or lower the scope and so similar mechanical things works just fine. Of course my adaption adds weight. I am new to the sport of hunting/rifle shooting and recently purchased the Barska Blackhawk for the purpose of sighting/practicing with my rifles at the range. I have used the scope at a distance that exceeded 100 yards and the view was clear. In my opinion (though not an expert in this field) this product was worth every dollar. For the price, this scope does the job and easily in the top tier within its class/costs. It is easy to handle and really light which makes it easy to hike with. To be honest, this scope is more capable than any scope we used in the USMC scout/sniper platoon I served in back in the early 90s. The cases are excellent. Spotting Scope works great, used it sight in my rifles, spotting with it is incredibly easy, and doesn't strain your eyes too bad, naturally they will a little. The only thing is that the tripod wasn't very sturdy, and didn't have very many adjustments.Customer Review: Does the job

I like it! easy to use, excellent focus, the light is OK, it could have been brighter with a bigger lens. I don't care much for the included tripod, hence the 4 stars instead of five. I use a full size tripod instead. Good quality product
