Description of Barska BlackBlackhawk 20-60x60 Waterproof Straight Spotting Scope w/Tripod, Soft Carry Case & Premium Hard Case

Setting the pace for design, dynamics and technical precision, Blackhawk soars high in ultimate performance. Engineered with unsurpassed optical performance and durability by those who understands the harsh hunting conditions scopes have to endure. Designed for the discriminating hunters who demands only the best. Be it a compact or a large scope that set your sights, Blackhawk spotters set the standard for portability, optical performance and value. In addition, the new Mossy OakBreak Up Camouflage model helps you blend in on your hunt! Backed by Limited Lifetime Warranty.
The Barska Blackhawk 60mm spotting scope is a terrific value because it offers very good optical performance in a compact and affordable package. The scope itself features waterproof design, multicoated optics, and a zoom eyepiece with magnification ranging from 20X up to 60X. The accessories include a light weight table-top tripod, a soft caring case, and a durable hard shell case that will allow the rubber armored scope to stand up to a lifetime of use.

The Blackhawk 60mm spotting scope uses a multi-coated objective lens and rugged porro-prism design for bright, clear images. At 100 yards, I can clearly focus in on a target, even when I crank the magnification up to the maximum 60X. When I use the scope for wildlife spotting, the sweet spot seems to be about 30X magnification; 30X gives me an ideal combination of sharp images and a wide field of view, perfect for identifying Puffins and Pelicans along the coast.

I also like the compact size and light weight of the Blackhawk 60. At only 14 inches long and weighing less than two pounds, the Blackhawk 60 is light enough to use a photo tripod such as the SLIK U-9000 in the field. Like other entry level spotting scopes, the Barska Blackhawk 60 uses an Achromatic objective lens, which means that some false color or blue fringing is noticeable at high power.

I?ve been pleasantly surprised by the quality and value of the binoculars and spotting scopes imported by Barska the last few years. The Barska Blackhawk 60mm spotting scope simply offers very good optical performance for a very reasonable price. --Jeff Phillips

Pros:

  • Excellent price/performance ratio
  • Very good Achromatic optics
  • Waterproof design with rubber coating
  • Premium hard shell case included
Cons:
  • Blue fringing noticeable at high power
  • Limited eye relief for eyeglass wearers

Sports reviews of Barska BlackBlackhawk 20-60x60 Waterproof Straight Spotting Scope w/Tripod, Soft Carry Case & Premium Hard Case

Customer Review: Excellent Spotting Scope
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

Great Scope for the price, Very clear optics, great on the 50 100 & 200 yard range

Customer Review: Good spotting scope for those on a budget
Sport shop rating: 4 Stars

I purchased this spotting scope back in 2008 and have had a good amount of time behind the lens. I purchased this spotting scope based on my budget at the time and the reviews that I read on Amazon.com. After two years of use, I can finally add some constructive feedback about this product.

Pros:
Comes with a nice carrying case
Included tripod is a very handy accessory
Build quality is very nice at this price point
Clarity of the glass is decent at 100 yards
Large magnification with a very nice fine tune control knob

Cons:
There is no height adjustment to the tripod - but that isn't to be expected at this price point
Front lens cap does not stay on and falls off easily during transport
Eye-relief - this is my biggest problem with the spotting scope. You REALLY have to get in very close to get a good image. This issue is greatly enhanced when you're using the higher magifications. Additionally, I would not recommend going with the highest setting of the magnification - your going to have issues with straining your eyes.

Overall, would I purchase this item again based on my experience and my needs/situation? I would have to say no and here is why. I originally purhcased this item because I was on a limited budget, I didn't think that I needed something beyond 100 yards, and I didn't know too much about spotting scopes and the differences compared to higher-end ones. Knowing what I know now and using higher quality spotting scopes, I should have just bit the bullet and went with a better spotting scope. That being said, if you're not able to put down the coin for a better quality spotting scope, than this one should serve its purpose - esp at this price point. I think it just comes down to your needs and budget.

Customer Review: Great start for those in need of a decent spotting scope
Sport shop rating: 4 Stars

First off, good value for the price. The contents included are more than some of the competition. That said, the included tripod works fine although it isn't the best quality, it is quite sturdy and does the job on a bench table or tabletop. The scope's quality is good, optics are a 3.5 out of 5. I purchased this scope for the range and it was worked fine for 300 yards. I haven't had the opportunity to test it out at a range with more distance. The starting 20x is definately too much for close distances, so if you are thinking about using for close distances in the 5-15 yard range, I would look at another scope with a smaller starting magnification. The included hard case does a great job, it has plently of room for the tripod (if you unscrew the handle), scope, and extra items as well.

Overall I like the scope as it did what it was suppose to do and it didn't cost enough to make you think twice about your purchase.

Customer Review: Good Spotting Scope fo the Money
Sport shop rating: 4 Stars

I bought this scope for sighting in my hunting rifles. I normally sight in at 100 yards, so this scope has all the range and resolution I need.

If you need the clarity of Nikon or Leupold, this scope might dissapoint you. Also, the construction is good, but it feels light, and I would hate to drop it.

Still, I was able to see very clear detail of my shots on papere at 100 yards, so this scope does everything I need it to. Also, it shipped with a nylon soft case, a small tripod, and a hard aluminum case.

Overall, I am very happy with this scope. If you're looking for a nice servicable scope at an attractive price point, give the Larsak Blackhawk a look.

Customer Review: Pretty good scope for the price
Sport shop rating: 4 Stars

This scope is pretty good for the price. The one thing that's a bit hard is the eye relief - you have to get pretty close to the eye piece. If you wear glasses, this makes it a bit harder to use. I did find that if you remove your glasses, the eye relief is not a problem and the clarity is still excellent. I have used this scope for multiple purposes. Hiking as well as at the range and it has worked very well in both cases. The tripod is a bit light, but I have another sturdier unit that I use with it. I like the hard case as the quality is very good and can hold other items as well.

Overall, I like the scope and would recommend it.
