I have had chronic back pain for nearly a decade. The pain seems to be related to stress and tension in my multifidus muscle. I have tried everything - massage, chiropractic, physical therapy and talked to a surgeon about my options for spinal repair. Ultimately, I have learned to live and function around the pain.
After reading reviews on Amazon.com I decided that it couldn't hurt to buy one of these. Boy am I glad I did. I feel better in the two weeks I've been using it than I have in the last year. It is not a miracle product but it comes damn near for me. First of all, I get so tense by the end of a typical day that my back becomes tight to the point where I have to physically wait half an hour before I am relaxed enough to sleep. I use the Back Magic for 15-30 minutes in the evenings. I use it on the lowest setting and reverse the direction (read other reviews here on Amazon). When I first lay on the thing I cannot say it is a comfortable feeling. Initially I usually feel as if I am about to go into spasm (I have had muscle spasms so severe I cannot walk for a week in the past). However, after I lay there for a bit my muscles begin to relax. After 10 minutes I often hear pops and feel palpable relief and relaxation. By the end of the session I am more relaxed than I can be any other way besides a 90-minute massage (which costs $75 in my neck of the woods).
After two weeks of daily use I feel pretty good. Overall, I have more flexibility throughout the day and less tension in my low and mid back than prior to beginning use of the Back Magic. I don't think this product is a panacea or miracle but I cannot stress enough that it is the best value for the money that I can remember in my life. Feeling good is absolutely more achievable for me with daily use of the Back Magic. If you have sometimes experienced back muscle spasms like I have, I recommend extreme caution when rolling off the Back Magic - take your time and rock back and forth. Lift one leg and then the other and bring a knee to your chest. Take your time and you'll feel great. This is the only way I can stretch and relax my multifidus without assistance from another human.

I'm in my late 30s and have been suffering from lower back pain for the past three years. The pain had moved into my shoulders and most recently my neck. The shoulder pain got so bad that I had to stop my upper-body workout routine 2 years ago. I found the Back Magic device while browsing Amazon two months ago. It has allowed me to manage my neck and back pain, and so far has eliminated the shoulder pain. I have been slowly getting back to my workout routine, thanks to Back Magic.
The device is adjustable with 3 levels of arch support. I suggest sticking to the lowest level for the first couple of weeks before graduating to the next. I am currently at the 2nd level and see no need to go any further.
I use the Back Magic at least 3 times daily. I take it to work with me since it is very portable. I will probably be using it the rest of my life.
Edit 2/12/2010: I am still using this nearly 2 years later. It's made from plastic, but it's holding up well. I only weigh 160 lbs however; if you weigh over 200 lbs, it may not hold up long term. As one of the other reviewers stated, it does work better with the narrow end of the unit placed at the lower back. My positive opinion of this device has not changed and I continue to use it every day. It is not a cure-all, but has helped me manage my lower back pain.

over the last few months I've been having worsening low back pain. It just feels stiff and tight. I can't get comfortable sleeping. I even went to mattress firm to browse their selection blaming my mattress for my achy back. I kept feeling if I can just stretch my back I might get better. An hour at massage envy helped but was expensive and only lasted for 4-5 days. I was right I needed to just only stretch my back! I just needed help doing it. After years of poor posture the muscles take a shape that you can't just stretch out of. All what I did is searched for the words (lumbar extender) on Amazon and among things that showed up was this device. Twice a day I use it, at the lowest level. 5 minutes each. It is not comfortable in the first few days. But slowly and gradually your back muscles stretch and relax over several days and the pain just goes away!!!!! at least mine did. You have to roll to the side and wait for the blood to reflow. READ THE INSTRUCTIONS AND MAKE SURE YOU DON'T HAVE A CONTRAINDICATION TO USE IT. I originally saw a similar back product (not back magic) in the sky mall magazine flying Southwest from NY to Chicago. This product was around $90. It sounded like a good way to undo all the bad posture from the day.
I did some research and decided to give back magic a try due to it's excellent reviews and low price (~$30). It's been a total success. We've purchased the product for my wife's aunt and mother.
I use the advice from other reviews. I lay on the back magic while watching TV. I'll also squeeze in some yoga when I'm done.
I would recommend it for relief from back tightness. I don't have back pain, but I think this product is helping me prevent injury due to tightness. I also sleep better after using the back magic (and doing 10 minutes of yoga). I had tightness in my back that made it difficult to sleep on my back, which is supposedly better for you. Now, it's not a problem.
As far as the vendor. They delivered the product quickly and I have no complaints.

I first saw the concept for this back stretcher in an upscale men's fashion magazine at $90.00, was caught by the idea and of course went to AMAZON to check prices. Not only was it less but offered an alternative for a fraction of the original ($24.00) The alternative is not made of steel, it's heavy plastic and has some other differences in angles. What was really great were a customer's comments which made me go for the less expensive model. It's better than any plain stretching the back, especially the lower lumbar. But it does the entire back from lumbar to neck by adjusting your body. You can HEAR the vertebra popping. I was in constant pain before discovering this item, but it's gone using Back Magic twice or three times a day. And, I haven't even used the possible adjustments yet. My only complaint is the
wrong spelling of "device". It's a C not an S. Amazon even offers a film of mine on Video on Demand. It's SUNDAY IN NEW YORK. It has Dustin Hoffman, Alan Arkin,
Nichols & May, but no Back Magic.
