Our son went from tricycle to training wheels to two wheels in a couple of months with these, at age three. Yes it is tipsier and that is the whole idea, to get the kids comfortable with the bike leaning and enabling them to find the balance point. In short order you can raise the wheels so they are just off the ground and then shortly after remove them entirely. Wonderful concept and highly recommended. Overly worrisome parents might have trouble watching them tip and occasionally fall, but otherwise these are good for all new riders.
