Customer Review: Perfect UNI for the beginner!

During this review, keep in mind that this is my first unicycle and I am still learning to ride. I believe this unicycle is very well built. The frame is very sturdy and well-designed. It was easy to assemble (10-20 minutes) and included some brief instructions. The instructions said that you need an 8mm and 15mm wrench. Well, you really need a 10mm wrench (wheel), a 15mm wrench (pedals), and an allen wrench (seat). Other than that mistake, the instructions were straight forward. I feel that most people could probably do the assembly without instructions anyway. All the parts arrived and were packaged well. My shipment came in an unmarked box unlike some other reviewers here. The unicycle box (which is marked) was actually packaged inside an Amazon box. This unicycle looks like it can take all the abuse that a beginner will normally dish out. The pedals are plastic, but they are very hard and thick. The seat is well shaped and has soft plastic bumpers for the normal "falls" associated with learning. The bumpers are actually removable, so I'm assuming they could be replaced if you beat them up too much. The seat felt comfortable at first, but your butt is going to get sore during the learning process. There isn't an abundance of padding, but it is sufficient. I feel that over time you will get used to it and when your riding technique improves, the discomfort will probably go away. The tire definitely looks like more of an indoor tire. I haven't taken mine outside yet, but it appears that asphalt could wear down the tread quickly. I also feel that the tire is a little on the narrow side. This probably makes it easier to turn, although I can't say for sure since I can only ride in a straight line for about 4 feet. Overall, I am very happy with my purchase. The quality of this UNI is well worth the price.

I've had this UNI for 5 days now. The UNI has had several falls and is holding up well. The seat bumpers are great and only show some minor scuffing. The rest of the UNI still looks brand new. Right now I am riding on hardwood and linoleum floors. The tire works very well on these surfaces. One tip I will give to beginners trying to learn: Try to squeeze the seat with your thighs. This really helps you feel more attached to your UNI and also helps you keep more weight on the seat and less weight on the pedals. It also helps you turn when you get to that point. After 4 days of constant practice, I've ridden 30 feet unsupported several times. I still feel this is a great UNI to learn on.
Update: 2/14/2011
I've now taken this UNI outside on a few tennis courts. As expected, the tire already shows a little wear on the tread, but not too bad. The seat bumpers are still protecting the seat from most of the falls. One small issue I have found is that the seat can get turned slightly if it falls a certain way. I've never had a problem with the seat moving during riding, but since the post is completely smooth, there is not enough friction to keep it from turning slightly during a hard fall. It really isn't a big deal, and I would still rate this UNI 5 stars considering the price. After only 8 days, I was able to ride at least 200 feet unsupported without falling. Tennis courts are great for training because they are flat and you can estimate how far you traveled.
