Description of Aerobie AeroPress Coffee and Espresso - w/zippered nylon tote bagSo easy to use and clean. Uses no electricity. Totally portable. Fantastic coffee! The AeroPress is an entirely new way to make coffee, American style or Espresso style for use in lattes, cappucinos and other espresso based drinks. AeroPress brews simply delicious coffee, 1-4 cups per pressing. Ideal water temperature and faster brewing yields rich flavor with lower acidity and without bitterness. Other brewing processes use near boiling water and long exposure to coffee grounds. Quickly brew a variety of coffee drinks including an Americano or an espresso-style shot for use in lattes or cappuccinos. Its total-immersion system permits extraction at a moderate temperature and a short brew time. Water and grounds are mixed together for 10 seconds, then gentle air pressure pushes the mix through a micro-filter in just 20 seconds, which avoids the bitterness of long processes such as drip brewing. The air pressure also gently squeezes the last goodness from the grounds, further enriching the flavor. The total brewing time of only 30 seconds results in an exceptionally smooth brew. Comes with 350 filters.
Sports reviews of Aerobie AeroPress Coffee and Espresso - w/zippered nylon tote bagCustomer Review: A great cup of coffee, but . . . Sport shop rating: 4 Stars
The Aerobie makes a rich, flavorful cup of coffee w/o bitterness or grittiness. Now my nitpicks. First, it uses a lot of grounds. You could probably get a similarly good cup of coffee with a simple Melitta filter system if you used twice as much coffee grounds as usual and didn't let the water contact the grounds for more than a minute. Second, the Aerobie claims to make up to four cups, but actually makes at most two modest-sized cups. When I have a friend over, I usually have to interrupt the conversation to make a second batch. Third, it can be hard to push the piston down when making a purported four-cup batch. (Actually, I don't push down. I rest my hands and chin on top and let my body weight do most of the work. Yes, I know I look silly.) Fourth, the Aerobie is slighly more complicated than a regular filter system. For example, after you make the coffee, you have to add some hot water to dilute it. How much hot water to add may involve some guesswork. Nevertheless, I've had the Aerobe for two years and I intend to keep it. A great cup of coffee is one of the little pleasures of life, and the Aerobie delivers.
Customer Review: Very convenient but not quite amazing Sport shop rating: 4 Stars
The best thing about this item is how simple it is, particularly in cleanup. This set has a few items I never carry, including the bag.
The coffee is good, although (unlike other reviewers) I haven't found it to be the best ever. Read the crucial brewing nstructions first; I then needed only a few tries to get the hang of making coffee to my own preferences. The process does use significantly more coffee than a French press or drip, so pack or buy 40% more than usual. But for travel or camping, when you want a compact unit and not to ma ke a mess in a confined space, it's consistently better than the alternatives.
Customer Review: Not bad Sport shop rating: 4 Stars
First of all, it does make good tasting coffee. Kind of a cross between brewed and espresso, very smooth. However, I'm still playing around with the bean/water ratios. It seems to make a very tiny shot of pseudo-espresso, so if I make a double and stretch it with hot foamed milk I'll get a regular sized coffee cup of latte. To make one the size of the lattes you get at a coffee shop, you'd have to do a quadruple shot. I love how easy it is to set it up, use it, clean it, and store it. Very efficient!
Customer Review: Put the express in espresso Sport shop rating: 4 Stars
This has proven to be the perfect way to enjoy espresso on our boat. The aero press along with an aerolatte frothing wand and I have everything I need to dazzle guests with espresso and latte's out on Lake Superior. It couldn't be easier to use, cleans up fast. You do have to watch the grind- if its too fine, as it was recently for me, its nearly impossible to apply enough pressure to force the water through. Wonderful and simple little product.
Customer Review: Novel and handy item. Sport shop rating: 4 Stars
I bought this item specifically for traveling since I always find myself looking for a good cup of coffee in small towns. (I know that is hard to believe but most do not know how to brew a cup of coffee or serve old coffee that has been sitting for hours.) Good coffee beans are available though. The press is well made although small and limited to one cup of coffee at a time. I have tried it and it does indeed make a fine cup of coffee.
