Advanced Elements 5 Gallon Summer Shower / Solar Shower
I ran a brief test of the Advanced Elements 5 Gallon Summer Shower beside an old solar heater that was left by the original owner of my sailboat when I first received my new unit and found that it heated almost as quickly, heating, I believe, to 92 degrees in less than 2 hours on a day that was not too hot and had a few clouds. The new solar heater has a temperature bar that is a nice way of seeing how hot the water has become.
Since I tested the old and new units together on the deck, it became clear from the start that the screw on cap was the best feature. Water spilled out all over the place from the old unit, but the screw on cap prevented problems. I would have hated to bring the old unit into the boat with the snap-on cap. The spout worked fine and I liked it better than the clamp - although I understand from reading forums on these units that this will eventually wear out, but can easily be replaced with a clamp later.
I would recommend this unit as it worked great and has some distinct advantages, especially with the screw on cap. I didn't even peel the plastic off the small mirror as this wasn't very important to me. The mirror can always be detached and discarded as many reviews were harsh about this little accessory. I like the unit well enough to buy a couple as a backup, which I'm about to do right now :) ... The sailing forums mentioned that any solar heater will only last about a year or two with daily use in the tropics. They also advise to put a towel under it to make it last longer against a rough deck.
Customer Review: This Solar Shower is AWESOME!!!! Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
THIS THING ROCKS!! This solar shower has SAVED OUR BUTTS!!! (Literally, we don't have hot water right now as we are remodeling a house and living in a tent trailer!) It doesn't work if it's overcast and cloudy all day, and it doesn't work if it's tooooo cold...(well below 50*), but if you have a clear shot of the sun, and at least 3 hours, sometimes within 2, you've got minimum 90* water... and it CAN get HOT, up to 130* (my boyfriend adds cold water...) and there's plenty of water for 3 of us if we fill it all the way up... me--and I have pretty long hair, my boyfriend, and my son, all suds off. awesome. Buy it now! WAYYYY better than the $6 Coleman camp shower... which we also have as a backup but it takes at least 6 hours to get warm, and the nozzle leaks all over the place and the hose came kinked... no signs of un-kinking, plus the temp gauge on this one is nice (it's gotta be touching the water, NOT the air bubble, and you've gotta shade it from direct sunlight for at least 30 seconds to get an accurate reading.) There's a little pocket in the front and a mirror that does a good enough job. All in all, a great buy.
Customer Review: great cheap temporary poolside outdoor shower Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I wanted to get an outdoor shower so my 3 young kids ( all 4 years and under) could get a bath after the pool. I looked at all sorts of outdoor solar showers ranging from $200 to $2000 dollars. I didnt want anything that required mounting or even semi-permanant installation since we will be getting our yard redone soon, so I just needed function and minimal set up.
This was the ticket. We keep soap and washcloths out back and the whole family gets a really nice warm bath after the pool in the evenings and we are ready for pajamas and bedtime. The water is almost too warm some days. We just fill it up each night or day when we are done and its ready for the next. Low profile, low cost and great solution for our situation!
Highly recommended. Simple and does what is promises.
Customer Review: Good Product: Works very well Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
It works very well, at first I thought it did not, thought it was leaking, but later I discovered had not closed the on-off button completely to the off position. It's got a temperature gage that goes up to 128 degrees Fahrenheit, but I think the actual heat may exceed even that.
Was not what I expected, for some odd reason I was expecting something made of rigid plastic, and this is tough but not rigid. The seller was NOT misleading, it is indeed as described and pictured. It has a temperature gage, but not temperature control and that is my only problem with it. In other words, being a solar shower, my only problem is that it works very well, maybe too well.
Customer Review: Military love this! Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
My son recently returned from his second tour of Afghanistan. His outpost spent 4 months with no running water. I sent him this solar shower so he could have hot water, instead of bathing in a cold mountain stream. 5 stars is not enough for what this shower gave to him! A hot shower!!! A++++ I bought 5 more to send to him so that he could share with the other guys in his unit! It was like Christmas to those guys! Something as simple as a hot shower. I totally recommend this product. If it can survive the conditions in the mountains of Afghanistan, it will hold up for your summer camping trips!
