Sports reviews of ACCUSPLIT AE170 Pedometer with Steps, Distance, and Calories Burned

Customer Review: Easy to use and accurate
Sport shop rating: 4 Stars

This pedometer is easy to set up and use. I tested its accuracy at the local highschool track by walking a 1/2 mile, and sure enough, my pedometer read 1/2 mile. The clip is sturdy, I haven't had any problem with the device falling off. The leash is a good extra - if it did fall off, it wouldn't hit the ground. My doctor gave me a goal of 10,000 steps per day, so I wear this all day long. It is light and I don't notice I am wearing it throughout the day.

The only downfall to this device (as is probably true with others)is that your stride is measured for walking, so when you are running or doing other cardio activity (elliptical) it doesn't accurately measure your distance. Since your stride is longer during a cardio activity (running), and the device is measuring your walking stride, the distance measurement falls short. However, the actual number of steps taken is still accurately measured. I suppose you could adjust the setting to a running stride when running to bridge this gap.

Customer Review: Mostly accurate
Sport shop rating: 4 Stars

This pedometer is mostly accurate. The only problem I've run into is that it does not accurately record your steps when you do side steps and kickbacks (hamstring curls). Other than those two exercises giving it trouble, the pedometer functions well. I was happy to find the ease of use with programming and everyday use of the product. The clip is very sturdy, but the pedometer comes with two other methods to ensure the pedometer does not fall off of your waistband. I highly recommend this product for walkers of any degree/experience.

Customer Review: pedometer works well
Sport shop rating: 4 Stars

seems to be hardy but only time will tell for sure. Accuracy is good --not too sensitive. Would give it a higher rating if I knew how well it will hold up but am happy with it so far. It has a cover that keeps bumps from resetting anything and the strap would be useful for running. It is easy to remove the strap if you don't need it. The reset button has a delay to be sure you really mean it --a very nice feature. THe unit opens conveniently to allow you to see the reading without taking off the unit.

Customer Review: Marketing hype
Sport shop rating: 4 Stars

Seems to be a good product, but I'm a little ticked at the marketing hype "98% accuracy rating". When calibrating it for your stride, it only allows you to enter the length of stride to the nearest quarter foot. Three inches is almost ten percent of a typical stride. A built-in ten percent error makes it kind of hard to get "98% accuracy". To be fair, a typical stride probably varies that much over a hike anyway, but how hard would it be to let you enter the number in inches, for goodness sakes.

Customer Review: Great Pedometer
Sport shop rating: 4 Stars

I was given one of these as a gift and wear it every day to encourage me to get off my chair and move! I purchased 2 more for people on my web development team to help motivate them to go out and walk more. This pedometer is easy to use. The only problem I found is that I wanted one that was simple (only steps/miles) but this one also has a calorie conversion which I've never tried. I'm not sure they make that version any more. Still, it's a great product, though a bit pricey for what it is...
